Offline | Accident to my mini, rear bumper need advice Ok today I sorta had an accident in my mini. I included a pic it's night so hard to get a good photo of it (I uploaded it using the file upload hope it works.) Anyway, I was turning left onto a road when some idiot in a Holden Common-door, cut me off pulled in front of me and blocked my turn. A semi was coming in the lane fast and then I had no time to make the turn. So I reversed backwards to get out of it's way and reversed into the car behind me to avoid being wiped by the semi trailer which would have hit me in the drivers side door. Anyway to cut a long story short I'm putting in a claim, I have bonus protection so it'll only cost me $500. My question is, I have a Mini Cooper 2003 model. However, as you can see in the pic, it's the bumper with the crappy thick silver chrome plastic bar on it, that's plastic and cracks easy, this will need to be replaced. Will a later year model mini bumper still fit my vehicle? They new ones look a lot better and it would be totally black minus the tacky chrome strip. Help please? Cause I could ask the smash repairer to simply order the nice bumper I like to replace the 2003 ugly one, but I have to be sure it fits! Thanks. ............. |

Offline | Yes, the new one fits straight on, though you will need to replace the black plastic trim around the bottom of the bumper as well as this is specific to each bumper. Interesting that you should think the later bumper is better, as I'd have to disagree with you there! Still, each to their own ![]() Tigger. ![]() May 08: Thanks to all of my friends on Mini2 for a lot of great times over the last 4 years. In future I can always be contacted here! |

Offline | I talked to the guy at spare parts indirectly today, through another guy who didn't really know much.. Anyway I asked him about that bumper (the nice one you have above) he said that I have 2003 model and it's something to do with the brackets on it don't fit on the newer models. However I did only tell him that I was wanting to replace the bumper, not the trim as well. Any advice on this? I need to be very sure it fits before I start pestering the panel beater to order that bumper instead of the ugly one I'm replacing it for. ............. |
