Offline | Spraying Chrome Front bar parts to body colour I got my car back from the panel beaters. The rear bar in the past was that silver chrome. I never liked it and always thought it looked cheap, so I had him spray it body coloured the same as the rest of the bumper. Looks fantastic, much sleeker, the chrome bar on the rear bumper always made it look cheap. The UK mini one has an all black or body coloured bumper and it looks good. Unfortunately my accident was as the back, so I couldn't get the front parts sprayed too. There is the centre part of the plastic grill, and the 2 small semi side chrome bar parts that are on the front bumper I want done. Quite small areas so I'm thinking of spraying them myself. Any advice? Here's what I'm intending to do: 1. Sand down the plastic chrome parts as much as I can. 2. Apply a plastic primer. 3. Spray the body coloured paint onto them in 3 even thin coats. 4. Wait 30 mins then spray over clear top coat for gloss. Do you think it's gonna work or be a disaster? I'm thinking that's how the panel beaters do it right? Or am I missing a step? ............. |

Offline | What colour is your car? I have also then chrome painted body colour on the bumpers. i know you can order black plastic inserts for the front and rear bumpers (which looked alright on a black car), which is what i did on the rear and then had them painted when the car was in the shop having some other work done. On the front they painted over the chrome stripes and it has held up well. Not sure what steps they took tho. Rub |

| MINI Traitor | The worst case is you'll completely stuff it up and have to get it done professionally. From what you've said it sounds like you've got a chance of success. I'm not sure how close the colour match will be. That might be a problem. Clubman less.... ![]() |

Offline | I tried it yeah didn't look good enough. Think I'll just drop it into the panelbeaters and get those chrome bits sprayed black, and while it's there, red brake calipers painted on. Thanks for the advice though! ............. |
