Offline | Performance Test Day For those who're interested, I am organising a Performance Test Day at Goulburn Airport on Monday 5th May 2008. We will be hiring the sealed runway at the airport for a cost of $1350. I will be providing use of my "Performance Box" to measure and log all the data. I will also rent some witches hats for setting up the course. The cost to you will depend on the number of people attending, but I am aiming to cap the numbers at 15 in order to allow plenty of test time for everyone. I must have at least 10 drivers before this thing goes ahead. So expect the cost to be somewhere between $90 (15 people) and $135 (10 people). Tests to be run include: Through gear acceleration test: 0-60,80,100,120,140,160km/hr and 400m,800m runs (all in the one go) Rolling acceleration test: typically 80-120km/hr in each of 3rd,4th,5th,6th gears (we can do any other speed range too eg idle to redline with speeds at 10km/hr increments) Braking test: 100-0km/hr, 160-0km/hr stopping distance Slalom test: timed through a series of evenly spaced cones to test dynamic handling Lateral G: driving around a constant radius corner (ie roundabout) at maximum sustainable speed, a good test of grip and handling You will receive a full set of test data and comparisons with the other cars enabling a meaningful comparison of different performance mods. The runs will be strictly one car at a time so it will not be "racing". I will hold a safety induction at the start of the day so that everyone is aware of the risks to themselves, their cars, and others. I will also talk about the safety measures in case of emergency use of the runway by aircraft. Participation will require signing a disclaimer statement (same sort of thing you get at track days). Please don't be scared off by this ... the risks are considerably less than your average track day. Please let me know if you want to add your name to the list. The deadline for a decision is 7th April. I will notify everyone of payment instructions once I have a better idea of numbers. Definites (15) ENTRY IS NOW CLOSED: MINIs: Guran [PAID] Fitz [PAID] CoolJamJar [PAID] Megan [PAID] MAD Always [PAID] minigolf [PAID] TeeBee7 [PAID] JME (2 drivers) [PAIDx2] swgn [PAID] Non-MINIs: Fl00dy (Polo GTI) [PAID] CoolJamJar's brother (Skyline) [PAID] Garry (Hayabusa) [PAID] Trevor (Falcon XR6 Turbo) [PAID] Sean (HSV VE Clubsport R8) [PAID] Exit List: robbo Snapper Last edited by Guran : Apr 29th, 2008 at 11:44 PM. |

Offline | Yes, there are still spots. Actually your attendance now ensures that we have the minimum number to allow the event to go ahead. There's still space for another 5 drivers ... |

Offline | Yeh, it's nothing to worry about really. We just need to be mindful that the runway IS there for aircraft, even though none are expected to require it on the day. We just need to keep in touch via radio (will be supplied to us), and briefly clear the runway if it's needed. |

Offline | Bump. And an update ... the runway booking is confirmed and paid for. 14 drivers have paid and I'm only awaiting payment from two more (Fitz and TeeBee7 - are you out there?), with minigolf ready to poach a spot. Monday 5th May ... it's going to be great fun! |

Offline | Excellent news. Everyone's financial now. We're good to go!!! The runway at Goulburn Airport will be available for our use from 9am next Monday. Could I suggest that any Sydney people who want to convey down there, should meet at Pheasants Nest Mobil servo by 7am with the aim of leaving by 7:15am. Please start with a full tank of petrol so we don't need to muck around on the way there (they have 98 at the Pheasants Nest Mobil). I will be heading down a bit earlier to make sure everything's set up. Google Maps Directions |

Offline | What facilities will be there, and what should we bring? (ie chairs, esky, BBQ, etc). I am presuming it will go ahead even if we have rain, is this correct? |

Offline | Facilities will be very minimal I think. Hopefully we'll have access to a toilet block! Otherwise we might be ducking behind the sheds for a leak! A helmet is optional, entirely up to you if you want to wear one while driviing on the runway - the high speed stuff is all straight line with no corners to negotiate, so it's low risk. Please bring chairs, sunblock, and a sun shade if you've got one. It would be a good idea to bring your own drinks and lunch supplies and/or all your own anciliaries (esky, whatever). There won't be much time for a detour into town during the day. I am bringing a small round BBQ and gas bottle, which should be enough to whip up some snags for everyone. If you bring your own BBQ it would be good insurance in case mine doesn't work or we need more space. Absolutely. We have no control over the weather and the booking is a done deal, rain, hail or shine. However, the BOM prediction suggests we're in for some perfect weather: "Forecast for Monday: Early frost and fog areas then fine mostly sunny apart from some cloud entering the west later. Moderate westerly winds, freshening later. Goulburn : Fine, mostly sunny. Min: 0 Max: 17" Try to aim to be at the airport by 9:00am at the latest, prefeably about 8:45am. We have the runway available to us until 3pm and we'll need all the time available to squeeze in all the tests. Looking forward to seeing everyone there! |

Offline | Oh, and don't forget to bring lots of warm clothes! The mornings are damn chilly in Goulburn. I will be driving directly to Goulburn rather than meeting up atr Pheasants Nest. It's a bit out of the way for me, and I need to be at the airport by 8:30am anyway. |

Offline | I second that, thanks to Bryan for organising a great day. Also, thanks to Liam for pulling over on the way home. I had the tyre pressure warning go off, the tyres looked OK to me so I reset it and no more warnings. |
