"Rugby League" or to "Australian Rules Football".

I've got a bit of an "office bet" going on this one (no money involved...just bragging rights).

Now we've gotten an inkling that the answer might be somewhat "regional", but on an Australian national level, which sport would the common person suppose was being discusses if one mentioned "footy"?

Footy means AFL or Soccer.....none of this rugby league rubbish!

Depends...
NSW and Qld = Rugby league
Private school education in NSW and Qld = Rugby union
All other states = AFL

We all know that rugby league is the greatest game on the planet! Go the Dragons...

We all know the reason it is not played in those other lesser states in Australia is that they are a bit soft and wouldn't be able to handle the hardness and physicality of the game

and don't get me started about soccer.....

Funny how those who follow minority sports like thugby always have to try and pretend that there is something wrong with real football where the focus is on skill and not on violence

Spy, footy would be AFL everywhere that matters.

Union is a real mans sport, not that flashy uniformed league rubbish

Agree with Mike, when down under AFL was always referred to as Footy, and what we call Football over here in the UK Bill is known as soccer down there

footy is rugby league....aussie rules is simply AFL. Maybe thats cos Im from QLD and Rugby Union is just Rugby to me.

Surely ANYTHING that involves the outfield players using their hands or whatever to make it easier for them can't be called Football?

Football = Soccer
Rugby = Union
Footy = AFL
League = boring but not SOO (State of Origin)
