Hmm, sorry Dave, can't really help you other than to say there's a pretty strong clubMINI movement in WA and maybe they can give you a few more pointers or advice?

clubMINI - Welcome

Cheers Liam

Thanks guys - Honestly - I will never buy a convertible ever again... that's a given!

I just re-read the post and there was about 50 million typos.. sorry about that... bashed the post out in a fit of anger and desperation!

I'm wondering if I could of been the pulley failure first of all, then the rest of the issues has been caused by the manual folding down?

I have a bad feeling, i'm not going to get anywhere with our dealer.. But i'm just going to keep on getting as much info and hassle BMW direct and hope we get the part for free -

Think i'm dreaming personally!

Hello There.....what a croc! How frustrated you must be.....

I know that the 3 year warranty on the MINI is only a recent (in the last 2 years) thing...so the 2 years is correct.

If you didn't get it from a dealer then where did you get it?

Have you written to MINI Australia? I would. I think this should be your first point of call. Quoting the age of the car, low milage and roof usage. Tell them that the sunroof was working before it went into the dealership and even that wasn't working when it came out.

Have you looked at doing it yourself? From all acounts it isn't that difficult....it is just sourcing a new roof here that might cost.

G'day -

Well we received a call from the dealer today and they advised BMW is offering to pay for 50% of the part.

This is still going to leave us with 5k (50%) for the part and around 1.5k in labour. ($6.5k)

I have a contact number for someone to speak to direct and will be placing a call this afternoon.

Whilst I welcome the fact the dealer has gone from .. Its not our car or our problem.. its still around 6.5k for a repair that we don't feel that we have contributed too.

Don't get me wrong this isn't a broken headlamp or a scuffed paint job, this is a whole new roof & 6.5k out of car we were looking to sell at 25k! -

I just don't feel the offer is still fair?

Cheers

Just thought I would drop you an update!

BMW came back to us with a 50% offer off the part (10K)

So our choice is now.. Pay 5k plus labour or.. (what maybe 6.5k)

or

Drive a convertible that doesn't work for the entire life of the car.

Who the **** is going to buy a convertible that doesn't work!!

What a complete joke!!

Oooh, not good. Always hate to see a Mini go like this. The BMW Z3 and Z4 roofs are so much simpler (only 1 moving part) and are simple as to fix, regardless of how horribly they go wrong. They have been well praised by people I know in the industry. Bad BMW for not making the Mini roof like that.

Having said that, I sympathise - I had gearbox problems long denied by BMW but well known in the real world. One day a thump, clunk, clunk later I had a $15k repair bill. Now have a 6 speed Getrag and although I'm trying to sell it now (Dave wants a Porsche) it's running like a charm.

Well sounds like I am going to need a lot of luck with the steering pump issue then! 6 year old car, no warrenty.....oh well worth a shot, hasn't inspired confidence in my second MINI though tbh.....

D_F - all out of my own pocket. Took me something like 9 months to save up for it. That's when I got my Z3 - so I had a car to drive while sorting out the Mini

Now too many cars and have to sell one.

Rellik - sorry to hear. There's a guy here importing loads of stuff for new Minis, so if necessary he might be able to get you some 2nd hand parts (if you know what has died / is dieing). My power steering problems were solved by plugging in the wire that fell out the back of the alternator - work THAT one out!

EDIT - BTW the pic in my sig was a shot as it was being loaded onto the tow truck after the final 5sp went bang...
