Oversteer

Just took delivery of a brand new MC (done 96kms so far)
Was wet in Perth and I had the car oversteering at will at very moderate speeds. It has the standard 16 inch Goodyear runflats (can remember the actual type).
Is this usual or are my tyres crap ?
There is little or no understeer (which is incredible as my other car ... Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart has bulk understeer if you go in too hot) but then the tail steps out ... until the DSC intervenes (rather abruptly). All this happens on a trailing throttle at very moderate entry speeds which sounds like fun but is actually rather annoying. Does anyone have this problem ?
Cheers

In 7 years of MINI driving I have never experienced oversteer. Understeer yes.
Check your tyre pressures as low pressure in the rear could account for it.
But it sounds as if you are lifting off mid turn to induce lift-off oversteer.
Don't lift off mid-turn, get your speed right before the turn and power through and out.

Remember

Fast in, Feet out

Like most really hot hatches, the mini will lift-off oversteer. If it is oversteering excessively try tyre pressures or wheel alignment.

I'm not getting lift off oversteer ... I'm turning in on a trailing throttle, ie; feet off both throttle and brake. I'm not going in under power and lifting off mid-corner.
Roads were wet and tyre pressures OK.
Surprisingly there was little to no understeer, as I was expecting understeer in a FWD.
Now that the roads are dry, the problem is nowhere as pronounced, but you can still provoke it if you turn in too fast. The turn-in of the mini is absolutely fantastic !
The oversteer is good fun though ... now that you know what to expect.
I'm surprised that Mike has never experienced it in 7yrs .... the first day that I pickup up the car (It was wet), I think I got it to ovesteer about 5-6 times. Each time triggering off the DSC.

You will do with going in corners like that your not putting any weight into the rear of the car and the back of minis tend to be high to. I find left foot braking to be much more fun, have been in an empty wet car a few times after late night shopping when im on lates and its realy fun.
I want to do a skid pan in it .

Have you tried cornering without using the handbrake?
