OBD II - Australia

Hi,

We have an 05 MINI Cooper, recently purchased. I believe the actual build date is December 04.

I have searched and found older posts which say the OBD II plug does not fully work, if at all, with older MINIs delivered in Australia. However, a lot of adverts are now out there for BMW and MINI compatible OBD scanners, going right back to beginning of MINI production. Given the fact that many newer OBD scanners are available since these older posts, has anyone found a scanner which works with the earlier Austrlalian spec cars like ours? I want to be able to read codes and reset service lights.

Thanks,

Simon

(Hope this is the right place to post, I may post in the technical site too, but that isn't Australia specific??

Only one that has worked for me is the R5/EMX scan tool from Peake Research. Tried it on several 02 - 06 Coops and S's.

Hi,

Thanks for these answers, I look forward to hearing how the purchase fom ebay goes - what model/year of MINI is it going to be used on?

Sorry for the slow answer, I have been busy elsewhere with other projects,

Regards

I purchased the following wifi scanner from ebay for my R56 JCW

ebay.com.au/itm/150873791001

About $40

I purchased Rev for iphone and it works great (worth the $40).

The only issue is the scanner stays active when you turn the car off and the phone sometimes stays connected, depending where I am in the house.

I have tested the R5/EMX Engine Code Scan/Reset tool with success. Now I have to fix the car.
I’m happy to let you use it; I’m in North Rocks NSW
