Offline | Hi everyone Hi everyone in Australia (especially ones in Melbourne), I have not posted anything before, eventhough i have got my mini cooper for a year now, just wanna say it's great to see so many Aussies now. A more serious note, i have realised over the past year of searching for parts to modify my beloved cooper, there aren't many choices in Australia, let alone Melbourne. Maybe since now we have so many aussie on board, it's time to really pressure ppl like minispares and co. to get their act together and deliever some of their products here. (just bit sick and tired of being told "sorry, nothing for ur mini, mate) what'bout a new thread for all contact detail of companies that do provide some sort of performance parts for our MC/MCS in Australia? thanx guys |

Offline | sorry Boo, another question, i've heard so much about this magnocor spark plug wires thing, and apparently it's great. DO u know if we can get any of this stuff in australia at all? seems like we are seperated from the rest of the world when it comes to modifications for our minis. the only exhausts i can find here in melbourne are devil and remus and they both only offer the muffler, nothing from the catback or what-so-ever. |

Offline | Welcome to the world of MINI Samu. You've come to the right place to ask those sort of questions. The JCW kit for the cooper is less than $10k, but I've not heard of anyone here in Australia getting one yet. Regards, ElTel |

Offline | G'day Samu and welcome to MINI2. The best performance upgrade you can get for a MINI Cooper is a MINI Cooper S. Just kidding mate, not everyone can afford the extra $$$ for the S, I question myself some days. Is it worth spending money to upgrade your Cooper which you've had for a year? Have you thought about just cruising in your Cooper for another year or so and then trading up to a Cooper S? In my opinion you get alot more for not too much more $$$. It would have to be cheaper than modifying your current cooper wouldn't it? What would you have to spend on modifying a Cooper to reach Cooper S spec and performance? Exhaust, Sports Suspension, Sports Seats, Spoiler & Skirts, Alloys and Engine HP/KW? Happy Motoring in Melbourne Cheer Jason ![]() 02 MCS gone after 2 years of fun and new friends, and 10 visits to the service dept at Brisbane BMW. You don't know the meaning of practical until you've owned a Camry! (seriously it's not a bad car though ) |

Offline | Lots of interesting thoughts on what to do now that you've got the car and want to go quicker. Can only speak for myself here. Had trouble with insurance. Most places don't like to insure forced induction vehicles until you're 30. I'm 25, leaving the Cooper as my only realistic option. Upgrade to the S is definitely on the cards in about 5 yrs though. As for upgrades, got me the Superchips upgrade. Gets you about the same hp as the JCW engine package (only claimed at this stage, don't have dyno tests). Don't really notice much in the top end but notice heaps more torque between 2k and 5k, and full power starts coming in at about 3k rather than the stock 4k. For $1000 it's a great option over JCW hardware and stuff, if you don't mind missing out on the noise of a good exhaust. BTW JCW bits should be available through your Mini garage. May have to do a bit of chasing though, but there are people who have got some of the kit already. |

Offline | yeah dsakko, totally agree with what u said bout the insurance thing. I get that question asked everyday "why didn't u get a cooper S?" i am already paying $1400 for my insurance on the cooper every year and that's rating one for a male driver 22YO, imagine what i would have to pay for the S~!! better off saving that sort of money and mod my cooper. To be honest, in an ideal world without hefty insurance i could've got a nissan s15 for the same price of my cooper, if not cheaper, and don't think that'll be less fun than a S, right? As for the superchip, i have thought'bout it for a long time, but the advises i got was to make it one of the last thing to put on, so i am just looking for exhuast systems and induction systems to erase my "flat spots" in the cooper first, then the superchip is a must next step. |

Offline | I was 22 when I bought my S last year - don't think I'll disclose the insurance premium At Sydney Auto Salon Final Battle late last year there was a yellow Cooper that had been upgraded by John Cooper Works. I think it was actually from South Australia! I have some images somewhere of the car, I'll dig them up and post them later ![]() Cheers, Tim Actually, I've been driving a Cooper as a loan car all week, and it's a lot better (performance wise) than I expected. It's only at speed where you notice the difference. At slow speeds acceleration is comparable. An example, when heading north/west on the M2 motorway, if you leave the toll gates and accelerate flat out to the first roadbridge that passes over the motorway (about 400m) my S gets to a smidgen over 140km/h. The loan 5 speed Cooper with 15" rims gets just over 130km/h when passing under the bridge. Go figure I'm sure an in gear 100-160 acceleration test would be a little different though ![]() ![]() |

Offline | Tim You better hope that the NSW Constabulatory don't frequent this site ... or next time as you pass under the bridge you will get a "photo finish" As for insurance ... I would be interested in suggestions for who is good as that is a search I have yet to undertake Cheers Steve |

| MINI Traitor | Welcome to the board Samu ![]() My advice is the standard Cooper is a mighty fine ride as standard. The S isn't as much quicker as you might think at first. However the S is more effortless. On our drives we have found that a Cooper can pretty much keep up with an S on public roads. The only difference is that the Cooper is having the $hit flogged out of it, where the S is loping along. I reckon that's the best FUN you can have Spend the modification money on fuel and tyres. Go out and Motor Have Fun ![]() Clubman less.... ![]() |

Offline | Chances are that was Craig Williams. He drove it in Targa Tas last year, and in the Parade section of the Classic Adelaide Rally. http://www.classicadelaide.com.au/vehicles/SA-DP599.JPG |
