Offline | Race has just finished ... unfortunately under safety car Wet weather meant that the action got hot and heavy from the first corner ... at least three MINIs did not make it back to the pits under their own power ... Great to see the MINIs out there ... not so great to see so many taking a pounding ![]() |

Offline | I'm waiting for a sales bulleting from my dealer in the mail next week FOR SALE "Mini Cooper. Clearance sale of demo cars. Low klms, BMW executive and promotional cars. A few minor scratches. Many colours to choose from" Seriously I wonder what does happen to the cars? Pity about the rain, but it was still fun to see the minis sliding around the track. Robbo |

Offline | Not sure about this year's cars, but last year they were specially modified by JCW for the race. All cars were LHD. Judging by the under hood shots and the fact they were LHD again, I would guess they were again sourced via JCW. If anybody had access to spares, I would certainly like the opportunity to bid on some 17" S-spokes. Chris ![]() |

Offline | It is very hard to compare the conditions of the celebrity challenge to 'normal' driving ... the cars are shipped in from the UK with god knows what spec, inexperienced drivers unfamiliar with the LHD setup plus the wet weather makes for a very interesting mix While I think there maybe some downsides to the brand advertising involved with a celebrity challenge race overall personally I think it was great for the brand Hopefully the MINI will take centre stage in 2004 ![]() |

Offline | Hmmm. I think some of the testing footage may answer that one. Nice big burnouts. Handbrake turns. Reverse flicks. Theoretically DSC+T makes it hard to do these normally (I say theoretically just in case my dealer browses these pages!) |

Offline | I am pretty sure the cars used in the race yesterday do the rounds so to speak, I believe they are used in similar races around the world. They are purpose modified by John Cooper, they'd hardly go to all that expense and effort just for our little race in Melbourne. It was a shame about the weather and pace car situation yesterday, apart from the couple of bingles it looked like a bunch of MINI's driving in convoy round a track, it looked good, but could have been better. Great marketing exercise for the brand. cheers Jase ![]() 02 MCS gone after 2 years of fun and new friends, and 10 visits to the service dept at Brisbane BMW. Offline | No way DSC was active on those cars! When people spun off the front wheels were spinning like crazy. Someone put the car into a massive oversteer. DSC is actually very good, especially in the wet. I have never tracked my mini, but in my BMW I have tracked the car in a torrential downpour, and DSC was amazing. The only question in my mind is why they didn't turn the DSC on for the celebrity race given the conditions. I can only assume that because these were special works prepared cars it was maybe not available. Alternatively, some of the celebrities had a bit of over-confidence after a week of training and turned it off. Robbo |

Offline | I'm not sure that DCS would have saved Bridget Duclos (the driver of the Liquid Yellow who lost control totally!). She has crashed out in two previous races, so she's trouble behind the wheel. I was certainly perturbed when I saw the Coopers sliding around, and wondered how they could do it if DSC was switched on. 'Cos I can't do it. Nice to see the flock of MINIs, even if there was a M-B leading them around the track for a couple of laps. Regards, ElTel |

Offline | It was reported in the Herald Sun (if you can believe anything that they say) that her Cooper suffered gearbox failure on the Friday. Didn't say whether she damaged it or it just shat itself. Regards, ElTel |

Offline | I was told that all the cars that were raced were LHD pre-spec MINI's that they couldn't really sell to anyone because they were VERY early builds, so they let the celebs race (trash) them instead... Good PR and getting use out of otherwise unusable stock ![]() |
