Offline | One less cooper s in Vic No not mine but adam(dipper66) Unfortunately adam wrote of his mcs on last thursday R.I.P A cyclist flew across an intersection and adam took advasive action and lost control and hit an elm tree. His luck wasnt running for him as the council had the sprinklers running and hed just turned off the dsc! To make matters worse the cyclist buggered off. But his biggest regret was that he couldnt attend the sprint at phillip island for dualing minis with my good self. Adam was a little sore but unhurt, and still attended the sprint with his mate, and took some pretty cool pics and video of my mini in action. Oh yes he also has some pretty nasty photos of one mcs doing a bannana impersination. maybe hell read this and post a couple of pics. Good luck Adam hope it doesnt take another 6 months 4 a replacement Scott |

| MINI Traitor | I was driving home the other night, and waiting to make a right turn, when a cyclist comes bouncing off the footpath, and straight in front of me. The most infuriating thing was that there was a bike lane on either side of the road. This guy would rather ride on the footpath than be bothered to cross the road and ride in the bike lane?? The guy was old enough to know better too. If you hit him, he'd cry why didn't you see him? I bet "sorry officer, I don't scan all footpaths for fast bicycle traffic before every turn" wouldn't get you off. Police **always** blame the car.I really feel sorry for your mate. If there is any good to come of this, at least most insurance companies give you a new car if you write it off in the first year. Hope he doesn't have to wait too long. At least he might be able to tweak the spec on the new one ![]() Clubman less.... ![]() |

Offline | Oh no, what a disaster.... remember guys, if some dumb animal runs out in front of your Mini, its best to weigh up the risks of taking avoiding action. Sometimes the cute bunny just has to accept its fate.... I'm sure this applies to cyclists too!! On a more serious note, can't see any reason for turning off DSC etc when using the car on public roads when there are hazards around. Wouldn't mention it to the insurers either.... they probably have small print to cover the disabling of safety devices.... |

Offline | Thanks, Scott for posting that bit of sad info. I know that Adam will be spitting blood to be without his nice red and white S. Hope that his insurance costs don't go through the roof because of this. If you see him, please pass on my sympathies. Regards, ElTel |

| You are number 6 | Glad that Adam was unhurt, the MINI did its job again, good luck with the insurance, don't mention the DSC. Sad as it is to hear of this accident I am disappointed at the general acceptance that the cyclist was to blame when there is insufficient detail in the original post to determine this. As a long time cyclist as well as MINI driver I have often been forced off the road by cars flying through intersections, none of the cars ever stopped to pick me up off the road. Cyclists do some very stupid things on the road but they are much more vulnerable than car drivers in a collision. As for cyclists bouncing of footpaths in front of Swamos, yes I have seen this happen. These cyclists are brain damaged and their removal from the gene pool will only be of help in the long run. And statistics show that in general the police blame the cyclist because like the majority of the population the police see bikes as toys not road vehicles. |

| MINI Traitor | Mike, No doubt it's like most groups of people, one person spoils the name of all his counterparts. ![]() I had a similar thing happen to me many years ago, with a hit and run type thing. If it wasn't for a wonderful member of the community telling what she saw to the Police, I would have been hung out to dry by the cops, and my insurance company. Sometimes your faith in community is restored ![]() Once again, I'm really sorry dipper. Hope things get better soon, with a nice new shiny car. Clubman less.... ![]() |

Offline | AussieMini, Ireckon the insurance company wont let anything be removed from the wreck, Adam wasnt even sure if he could get his $3000 sparcos and $2000 race tyres that wernt even on the policy. On the subject of the cyclist im led to believe it was definately his fault as he came from the wrong direction but i know what you mean about them being an easy target. |

| MINI2 Senior | I think you're probably right there. My uncle was in an accident that wasn't his fault (EA Falcon wagon with extra seats in the boot). He was allowed to take the extra seats from the written off car, because they were an extra thing that wasn't PART of the car. So, wheels and tyres I'd say are almost definitely not going to be retrievable ![]() Harsh world we live in. |

Offline | Adam, really sorry to hear about the accident. Glad to hear that you are ok though. I once spun and caused $20k damaged to a Boxster in the rain thanks to some bloody motor cyclist doing a u-turn in heavy rain on a blind corner at Yarra Blvd. Sure I was going fast, but was within the speed limit. So I know how you feel. |
