Sometime you can be unlucky, though. Our car was in Brisbane for three weeks before we got it.

I find this all a bit strange, I walked into my dealer and got pretty much the exact car (Cooper S) I wanted (DS/B, leather, 17s and thats it) 5 or 6 days later, he had a big list of variously specced cars available...

Are they THAT hard to get everywhere else? Or did I just get lucky?

I know there was a choice of Red, DS, Silver, BRG..

I think you can jag it depending on what is happening around the country.. Also, it depends on whether a dealer with a car on the floor is willing to give it up or wait to sell it themselves...

I think you can know too much - the more you surf these forums the more you want an optioned up car. There was one on the showroom floor when I ordered mine but it didn't have DSC, xenons or the auto climate. Methinks we're fussy beasts.

i waited 3-4 weeks after mine had arrived in the country because the dealer ordered the wrong wheels on it and they had to get a car from melbourne to get rims off only to have it damaged on the way up and sent back 2 melbourne to be fixed before the dealership could get the car, and put the rims off that onto mine.. oh dear.. what a drama that was
oh and i placed my order 9 months before that.. a good 6 months before they went on sale i think?

i think now the wait wouldnt be so bad because dealers have cars in stock. back in the good old days of pre orders and prespecs.. u either took the only spec they offered and got it quick.. or u waited for your custom baby to come in..

it was all well worth it tho, u'll have a smile from ear to ear for weeks on end

Speaking of smiles ear to ear - I think that its important to tell your work mates that you've got a new MINI otherwise they'll think you've been getting lucky in another kind of way

you should have seen how much I was yelling and carrying on in the office when my (originally ordered) car appeared on the shipping website as being booked on a ship!

*EVERYBODY* knew!

Heh - I'm asked a few times a day where my car is. I think they're amazed that I know where it is and what the sea state is. What is amazing really is just how much info is available if you know where to look. Aparts from the shipping line details, each Port has arrivals and departures, where its berthed etc etc and other sites have ship tracking, wave heights and met data. I just love technology.

What happens if you just got a new mini and you have been getting lucky! I reckon your head would flip over backwards (like Canadians in South park )

so I guess Melody did see your "pre-nup" comment

btw - when I recently asked a good friend of mine who is patiently waiting for his Cooper R/W to arrive, whether he was going to put anything on the roof his response was:

"The kids"

Starting to get excited??

I remember when mine got off the boat and my dealer told me to call on Monday to see whether it would be ready Tuesday or Wednesday...
I called Monday at about 2pm full of anticipation that it would be ready Tuesday and they said ..
"Actually, they just wheeled it into the showroom. You can pick it up at 4 if you want"
I was so happy i started jumping around the unit doing the big Woohoooooo

It was a great day

Excited - I'm fit to burst. Best I have one or two single malts to calm the nerves. Definately time to get the insurance organised. I can't believe its now so close.
