| MINI Traitor | Thanks Tim, I'll do some more investigation. I've got the things pretty hot in the past, and it hasn't been a problem, but that doesn't mean it won't be a problem in the future ![]() I think it's REALLY important to allow brakes and engines to cool down after a really good workout before you stop. ![]() I also have them on my Lotus, and I got them pretty hot the other day. They seemed to work pretty well on it. I didn't get much of a cool down on it, but then it's got solid discs all round. |

Offline | Hi, Swamos is correct, most "warping" problems can be avoided by correct cool down procedures. Actually it is exceedingly rare to truly warp rotors. More commonly it is a build up of pad deposits on the surface of the rotor. The symptoms are the same, a pulsating feeling or "thrumming" noise when applying brakes, often felt through the steering wheel. Usually these problems occur on cars that are tracked. To avoid deposits you need to 1)Bed in new pads properly. Go out somewhere with the car with no traffic. Do 10-20 brake applications at approximately 50% of the force of usual track braking, applying the brakes for 3-4 seconds each time. 2) Cool down the brakes properly. On the track this means doing a full cool down lap at coasting speeds with NO brakes applied at all. On shorter tracks I often do extra cooling down out the back. This also allows the engine to cool down. 3) Never apply the handbrake when brakes are hot. If you do get deposits they can often settle down after a while as the deposits even out. Robbo |

Offline | Out of lurk mode.... FWIW I used to get Nick from Peak Performance to do some work on my BMW when I had it. He's pretty knowledgable about the things and does a fair amount of work on various BMW race cars. So if he's recommending a pad it should be ok. Good advice on cooling down after some track use though. Hey Swamos, you went to Lotus 2003, you would have seen/heard my mates Hyabusa powered PRB. Now that is going to be a fast road car!! |

Offline | um Daves Hyabusa revs to 13000rpm does 0-100km/h in probably 3.6 seconds, because its a bike engine has 6 speed sequencial gearbox with a separate reversing box (flick a lever and its 6 speeds reverse) weights like 430kg, traction control, launch control, Motec ADL dash with data logging etc etc. still has emissions testing before it for rego so you can't get one yet....... Cost - $60-65k all up Don't get me wrong guys but if your spending $10k on your S for a works kit have you considered leaving it standard and getting a second hand 7?? I paid mid $20k for my PRB and even with a 88kw Toyota engine, on the track I'm doing a 1.08's at Wakefield. On the road 600cc sports bikes aren't a problem either in corners or till about 120km/h from the lights. Add a little carbon fibre and aero screen and they don't look like the old guys cars most associate with the marque. Something to consider.... |

Offline | Boo, That car was actually pushing out more like 240hp. Sorry about talking about non-mini stuff. We've an Australian se7en forum going if it helps with the divorce papers. here Speaking of track time, have you got a cams level 2 licence yet Boo? Its like $80 or so and then you can go to practice days at Eastern Creek for like $80-100 for the day and also do some supersprinting which is far too much fun and better than just doing track days. |

Offline | Excellent, might see you around there soon after much discussion we've decided we can't cram both kids and the weekly shopping into an S so looks like we're getting a 325ti (new 6 speed) as its got a slightly bigger boot and is nicely specced standard, goes well too!!This year we're doing the combined sports car clubs supersprint series with Club Lotus although I've got some upgrades going so haven't done a round yet, Daves taking the Busa out for the next round at Eastern Creek on the 11th May so that should be interesting as its his first outing on a circuit he knows. |
