Offline | now that took a lot of arm twisting. If you want a ride in my car give me a shout (I'm in the Castle Hill area), always willing to lead others astray so I can point and say "look he's just as bad as I am". I'm not touching that remark. |

Offline | Wouldn't mind but at $450 its a little on the expensive side. You can go to Eastern Creek for private practice for $105 for the whole day. How does the S go through turn one?? I know with the PRB its foot to the floor at the start of the straight and not lifting or braking till turn 2 - scarier than any carnival ride. I'm sure my eyes must be the size of saucers coming into turn one. |

Offline | I haven't been too brave yet... Been 180 down the straight and about 155 round turn 1... Will see how we go on the 15th.. will probably take the DSC off this time ![]() ![]() I agree about the $450.. but it's fun never the less ![]() ![]() Do many cars get out there on the private practice day?? Is it pretty well controlled? The original SWORKS |

Offline | Hi, Sorry to jump into this "clubman" conversation. I seriously thought about buying a PRB as a fun track car rather than the mini. Various factors came into play. However, the reason I went for the mini is I can realistically drive it anywhere, and also I believe it is a much safer car if I have a big off, roll, or even worse get T-boned on the track. However, I have been in a PRB around eastern creek and they are seriously fun cars. The hyabusa cars look like fun. From reading the UK Evo magazine there is obviously a lot of fun options can be had utilising this drivetrain. A message for Boo, you must think like me. In a post above you mentioned the possible M version of the upcoming BMW 1 series. Mmm, I was eagerly anticipating that too. A lightweight 4 cylinder M car with rear wheel drive. Sounds like the old M3's. I might put my name on the waiting list. Darryl, I am in castle hill too! If you see a green cooper S or a blue M3 wave! Robbo |

Offline | I've always said, if I didn't have to drive in traffic every day, and carry things every now and then, I'd drive a Lotus Elise - no question about it. But when you can only really have one car, practicality (or as much practicality as an MCS offers) is kind of necessary ![]() And I'm in Castle Hill too (well Baulkham Hills actually). I'll keep my eyes peeled for you guys. My S is Dark Silver/White ![]() |

Offline | Boo - These private practise days have just been opened up to L2 licence holders so as yet I've not attended one, I'd probably not suggest you go to one for your first time on the track but seeing as you've had some track time its probably a good option for the $$$ saving. Worth looking into, their run by the ARDC so should be well supported. I'd be interested in how your R spec tyres/soft brake pads last on the Minis, chatting to the WRX brigade I hear stories of pad changes every second track day with tyres lasting not much longer, must get expensive. I know on the clubman I put in some Mintex 1144 pads and they've been in there for going on 2 years of track/road use and their still only half worn. I do go through tyres every 4000km's or so but am running Avons softest road legal compound (warm up lap - nup up to temp second corner). Robbo - You'll get no arguement from me on the practicalities of clubmans, they are a toy, but a damn fine one. On a long freeway trip I normally wear a helmet ( yeh I know everyone looks, points and laughs) and in the rain you wear wet weather gear, think of it as a bike that you can't fall off I suppose, live with one on a daily basis - no thanks but thats what your Minis for. Glad to give you a wave if I see you (I'm normally oggling a Mini if I see one). You won't miss me my cars light blue with Carbon Fibre guards and a small perspex aeroscreen. |

Offline | Theres some pics on my web site Here With regard to Elise's, I had a small moment when I thought that maybe I could get rid of the PRB and just have an Elise as my only car. Changed my mind after a test drive, gorgeous looks, quite good handling up to a point (they have a tendency to swap ends at the limit if your caught unawares) but the power - hopeless, this was confirmed at a Club Lotus track day where they were just soooo slow, damn things were like mobile chicanes. Would'nt knock one back but I found the drive no better than a MX5. |

Offline | Update on the competition (JCW) Dealer called me today regarding the impending arrival of my MINI (another 3 weeks ) but did provide some useful information on the JCW kit ...To quote the dealer "Spoke to MINI Australia today JCW kit will be available in July and while price is not confirmed still sounds like $11K" ... given that MINI New Zealand lists the MCS kit as $10,900 including GST & fitting seems like $11K Australian price has a little extra 'fat' to it ... exchange rate alone (aside from larger potential market) would see a comparable price of about $9,800 ![]() Still got the order in though ![]() |

Offline | I've always had a dream, get hold of and old Fiat 500, stick a bike engine in the boot... I was thinking more along the lines of a Ducati 996 or something (to keep the Italian theme), with exhausts the just dump straight out the bottom.. Cost, I reckon under $7K.. (you can get Fiats in the paper for $250, engine $3000?) 500kgs (yes thats all they weighed), 110hp, a thumping Vtwin sound, 6spd sequential box, rear engine rear wheel drive and ever so cute to look at.. Painted up like a Fiat Abarth 695SS (I'd sell my soul for one of those.. damn Japanese collectors buying them all up..) |

Offline | Hey all.... I must say that the Elise was a little slow around the track but much quicker than an mx-5. As for swapping ends I only managed to do that in the wet or should that be But my car had the metal matrix discs and they were awesome as well as very light.. never got around to replacing the pads on my car after about 25,000km of hard work but I managed to live with the car for 4 years as my daily driver. Guess I am a little masochistic ![]() Damelians have a pearl yellow 111S with black leather and the electric A/C ..... drove their black demo about 4 months ago and the extra grunt 88kw vs 116kw was noticeable but about $110,00.00 is a little bit too much for me on a company lease..... life just sucks sometimes ![]() Leigh ps ... Spoke to my dealer today and he said the exhaust won't meet the ADR drive by regs.......so it will have to be modified for the Oz market only. So much for a world standard ![]() Last edited by sydcooper : May 12th, 2003 at 02:45 PM. |
