Wink NSW July Drive Competition: Sponsored by Classic MINI Garage

HOW THE DRIVE COMPETITION WAS RUN (winner has been decided - Boo)

We propose to run a day/weekend every 8 - 10 weeks and are now preparing for the weekend of July 12/13 '03.

Here is your chance to have some valuable input and win a great prize if your idea for the Drive Day/weekend is nominated.

The prize also applies if your suggestion(s) is not used for the July weekend however is used at another time.

The prize:

All expenses (includes: fuel, accomm - if required, meals and activities) for the day/weekend for you and your partner/family.

How to enter:

1. Recommend a destination/venue that will accomodate/lunch from 25 to 40 Vehicles and 50 to 80 persons.
The Drive can either be a weekend which would need to include accommodation or a one day outing which would require a lunch venue as the final destination. One day venues should be no more than approx 2 hrs for the return route to our starting point.
2. Provide route directions to and from the venue.
3. Recommend activities the group can participate in.

Note:

The main prize is awarded on the basis that the destination and route is nominated as the winning entry. Additional prizes (TBA) are awarded to any participant in this thread that has their 'activity suggestion' accepted as part of the winning day/weekend.

Entries for the July Drive close by 9pm Sunday June 8th:

All destination entries received by 9pm Sunday June 8 will be shortlisted and posted to MINI2 for polling. MINI2 members can then vote on the final nominations. The nomination that polls the highest wins.

Here is a teaser to get the MINI rolling ..

Blue Mountains for Breakfast .. then down to Bathurst for a lap or three around Mt Panorama then over to Sofala or Hill End for lunch and even bed down for the night. Late start Sunday and off to Mudgee then back to Sydney. The road to Mudgee from Sofala/Hill End is sensational.

Hi Brad,
I reckon your idea's pretty good already, and your map's great...we don't have to make a map like that do we?!!

I'm guessing that previous meets have gone to some nice places already...do you think you could tell us what's already been used so we can think up of different ideas? unless of course people don't mind going on an old run?

i'll be working on it!

Where have I been for all these months?

Hi Justin,

The above map is not very functional. I thought the pics might get everybody in the mood.

All entries are eligible even if they have been previous runs. After being shortlisted the poll will decide on the winning run. As to mapping, a description of the route is fine i.e. start point, final destination, route to the destination and the return to start route.

You could also scan a section of NSW map covering the route although that is not absolutely necessary.

Things you should consider: If it's a weekend drive Saturday's start time doesn't necessarily need to be early.

A one day event will need to start with a briefing that should finish no later than 8am and is probably best held on a Sunday.

The route to the destination should be different from the return route.

Look forward to seeing some recommendations

The have been a few of suggestions for July 12/13 however no official entries in our drive competition yet.

Coast road to Batemans Bay then up to Araluen Pub south of Braidwood and home via the freeway - one day or we could stay overnight in Araluen and cruise back the next day taking in Berrima and the Kangaroo Valley stop for some kayaking then head home via the freeway.
Other suggestions
Canberra for Sat/Sun
Bathurst, Sofala, Mudgee Sat/Sun
Hunter Valley Sat/Sun

So whose going to come up with some suggestions by next Sunday?

One destination that I will put forward is as follows : out to Windsor via Galston Gorge maybe? Its a hoot in a MCS , from Windsor up the Putty road past Colo, Putty, Howes Valley,Bulga over to Broke down to Wollonibi pub for lunch (2.00 ish) Back to Sydney via peats ridge and the old highway. There are no dirt or unsealed roads if you go this way,But there is a unsealed road between Mt poppong and Broke for those who do'nt mind.

Here is one if you want a one day outing...
Start Manly...
Drive up to Mona Vale then out McCarrs Creek Rd and stop at West Head. Then head out to Akuna Bay and Cottage point and exit at Terrey Hills.
From there you head to St Ives and out the Kuringai National Park with heaps of twisties exiting up at Mt Colah..
From there you head up the Old Pacific Hwy to Gosford and down Peats Ridge Rd through to Wisemans Ferry.
Lunch at Wisemans Ferry.
Then you can return via Galston Gorge and home..

Have done this run with Coopz when he was down and there are heaps of twisties to be had...

Hi,

Ahh! Galston gorge brings back good memories!

When I took a mini for a day long test drive I went from Parramatta, out to Horsnby, Galston Gorge (down, up, down again for good measure), then the backroad to Windsor and Richmond, up to Springwood and Katoomba, out to Lithgow, then back the windy way to Kurrajong and Richmond. Ended up with 400kms of windy roads and a smile on my face. I then did another 100kms the next morning for breakfast!

Hey Guys and gals,

I am Brisbane based, but will be heading down to the snow the weekend of 9 August and back via Sydney the next weekend. Any plans for a drive day either weekend?
