Aus 2003 Mini with 2 remote keys or 1?

Hey guys,

Just wondering if any of you guys got 2 remote keys with your mini or just the 1? In the overseas spec press release it says the 2003 models (sept 2002+) come with 2 remote keys.

I asked the dealer this and they said no just the one.

If someone can clear this up it would be great.

Thanks,

Neeshil

Picked up the car two weeks ago ... one remote key, one normal key and one dinky little plastic emergency key Have to admit two remote keys would be nice

Don't tell me you're going to buy another car to get a spare key?? I heard the keys were expensive, but I didn't think they were that bad.

hehe... nah not going to get another car to get a spare key...

Just interested in the differences between local and overseas specs, and also trying to verify what dealers say/claim/don't know etc...

For example, when I got my Mini the dealer at Brisbane BMW said that the new 2003 software does NOT allow the windows to be wound down by the key anymore. On the Mini run on Sunday everyone said thats crap, and so I took my mini in and the service guys activated the function for me.

What makes it funny is that I had ticked the box on the pre-delivery sheet for window function on the key, but when I picked it up the mini dealer said that shouldn't be there and he would have to tell the pre-delivery people to update their information on the sheet as they didn't have correct info! (When in fact it was he who didn't know!)

Oh well!

I love my mini. Hopefully if work goes well this year I will get an S next year

Be greatful for small mercies ... I wouldn't even know what a pre-delivery sheet looks like

I haven't played with all the settings yet, but one I have got that I definately like is the auto door locking feature once the car hits about 20km/h Girlfriends feels trapped though

Yeah well actually they didn't show me the sheet. A pre-delivery lady called me up after I signed the contract etc..

She asked if I had been through the sheet and I said I had no idea it existed!

And yes, I love that feature of locking the door. You know it can also auto-unlock when you turn the ignition off as well? Although I don't want that activated.

yeah i like it de-activated because I may go somewhere and turn off the car and not necessarily want it unlocked at that time. (Although I may change my mind as I didn't know about the auto-unlock until yesterday when I had a loan car)

As for manually unlocking, you just need to press the open door handle twice (first time unlocks, second time opens door)

These little features the car has (eg auto lock/unlock) are very handy!

Hi,

I like the auto locking feature. My Daughter, who is an enourmous mini fan particularily loves it. She christened our mini "Maddie". Whenever we get in the car she says "hello maddie". When we take off and the doors lock she says "thankyou maddie".

However, the other day I discovered a key option I didn't like. It was pouring rain. I tried to unlock the car, but due to the rain wasn't sure if it was unlocked. Suddenly both windows went down, and the car got soaked inside with rain. I subsequently realised that my key was set up so that if I held the unlock key down for more than a few seconds the windows went down.

Does anyone else know of any other functions for the keys or the on board computer?

In my M3 and X5 there are secret menus etc that you can access to show all kinds of information eg build date, all kinds of technical data eg true road speed, true revs, oil consumption, fuel tank level, etc etc

Hey Robbo,

How do you access the secret menu on the M3? I want to try it out on my brothers car.

Thanks,

I was so keen to get my car they didn't have a chance to show me a pre-delivery sheet, I only wanted to know how to adjust the drivers seat and where to put the fuel Both of which I hope I would have managed to figure out

apparently you can set your car to auto unlock when you pull the handbrake up.

Could be a problem for hill starts though (if u use the handbrake that is)

We ordered another remote key when we took delivery, it hasn't turned up yet so I'm unsure of the final cost but was told its in the region of $250.00 or so.

Maybe someone lucky enough to have already taken delivery could post a scan of the predelivery sheet so that we can all see what options we have for programing those expensive keys ?
