My understanding (from reading other posts on the board)is that the JCW seats come with airbags and therefore would completely replace the OEM seats ... agree with erichui though I bet these babies will cost a fortune

it would be really nice to get those JCW seats in...since I'm not happy with my ones. The driver's seat squeaks with every bump on the road, and the passengers seat doesn't tilt at all. I've taken it in to fix, but the problems have happened again not soon after, and the squeaking was still there even straight after they "fixed" it.

The JCW seats are probably the only nice seats that you can put in the car legit. I know some people have put in Recaros, Sparcos etc but a reputable installer probably won't do the job for you. I went to Roman Auto-tek (importers of Recaro) and they said that they wouldn't touch any car with side airbags fitted in the original seats...

But with JCW that would be a different story but do the JCW seats have side airbags? i was under the impression they didn't.

Where have I been for all these months?

In leather I'd pay up to $4000 ($4000 to get rid of the creaking...).
Considering Sparcos are normaly what... $1000 each?

Problem I find with Sparcos, Recaros etc is they look like.. Sparcos and Recaros, to me thats too much of a Honda Civic with driver only bright red Racing seat and some 3 ft 2 guy who can't see over the steering wheel and has watched too many episodes of Initial D with a 10 inch exhaust lowered with 18 inch chrome rims so he can't do U turns or go over speed humps yet he still feels the need to drive up and down little Bourke st which has the largest spped humps in Melbourne and racing stickers down the door... whew....

this is off the topic but my seats were creaking too....

all i did was put some WD-40 in the rails (on the floor where the seats are attatched) and slid the seat back and forth and the problem went away..

may not be the case for everyone but it worked for me.

also, i so couldn't not justify spending money on seats!!!

get the hartge! haha

Yeah I know, I'm just sick of the constant attention these seats seem to need, I think I broke the up and down ratchet thingo the other day because of the constant need to yank the seat up and down to get rid of the creak (thats what works for mine, go fully up, go fully down, up one and a half more, creak is gone, but it can't be good for the seat..).
Other than that the seat has been pulled apart twice by the dealer to be fixed.. I don't want to be doing maintenance on my new car, if I enjoyed that type of thing I would have bought an old Porsche or Ferrari.

Just to get some of you drooling

JCW sports seat
The power and handling of your MINI tuned by John Cooper Works needs your full control to deliver their best. To really get to grips you need a John Cooper Works sports seat. Increased side-hold keeps you firmly at the wheel while tougher shoulder areas and adjustable thigh support mean greater comfort. This seat comes in most of the normal colours and fabrics with the option of heating and lumbar support, and Easy Entry as standard.

The JCW seats look alot like the Sparco Milano seats. jlm's car has em, and they are AWESOME! Grippy and supportive while still being very comfortable. Mighty nice-looking too:

Over here, the JCW seats are currently made of unobtainium (just like the JCW kit). The Sparco Milanos run about $800 each.

Hey all

Believe that the first issue is whether side-bags are standard in all markets and I don't believe that is the case so then the issue would go away if you didn't have side-bags fitted.

Second what sensors are fitted to the seats for airbag/seatbelt functions. Somebody with access to some technical information on these systems could answer that one.

Third is it illegal to disable sidebags if you have them fiited as standard, as in Australia. I am not sure of the answer but as they are not a legal requirement I would suggest that that is not the case. In addition some vehicles have the facility to turn off the front passenger airbag so a child or baby seat can be carried in the front seat.

Leigh
