As you guys are probably aware, in the early part of 2003 I saw Megan Gale at Sydney Qantas domestic check in.
After the encounter, I kicked myself for not talking MINI talk with her...
Subsequently, I have been needled by Eltel and others for not speaking to her. OK, I was a wuss.
Today, I upgraded myself to Business Class on a flight from Perth to Sydney. Gotta use them Qantas Freakie Flyer points somehow.
Anyway, I saw this striking woman out of the corner of my eye in the Qantas Club and didn't take a second glance.
Got onto the flight, sat down and started to read my book: a co-biography "Hitler and Stalin".
I looked over to my right -- and who should sit down, but Megan Gale.
OK, she's stalking me now. I've got to do something about this.
After a nervous two hours attempting to get up enough courage to approach Megan I read all of two pages of my book. Something got me about Von Paulus being surrounded at Stalingrad that got me out of my seat, cross the aisle and attempt to speak to Ms Gale.
Kneeling down next to Megan, with her Manager eyeing me off as a "nutcase", I start to stammer...
nhodge: (with the voice of a 16 year old) "Megan? Hi. Can I ask a question and a favour?"
msgale: (hestitatingly) "Yes"
nhodge: "I own a MINI, and love it. How was the drive at the Grand Prix in the MINI?"
msgale: (thinking this guy is wierd) "Yeah, it was great. I love the MINI. They're so cute"
And so on. I was mesmerised by her looks to remember the exact topics we conversed about. I think I said something about the MINI wedding and having photos. She was pleased that I didn't offer to show them.
nhodge: "Can I ask you to sign my boarding pass?"
msgale: "Sure."
nhodge: "Can you make it to MINI owners, not to 'a' MINI owner as my wife would get jealous if you did that."
msgale: (thinking this guy is now an idiot, too) "OK"
As I was getting off the plane, Megan and her entourage made a bee line for whereever they were going. Anywhere away from the MINI obsessed wierdo.
The other business class passengers were:
(a) envious that I had the courage to do this
(b) wish they could do it
(c) though I was an idiot for doing it
(d) wish they had something to talk about with Megan!
Nick, you have got b*lls of steel. That book must have given you some real confidence. Can I borrow it please?
You're very lucky to get that close. I was once walking out of Auckland airport and I happened to notice that the blonde walking next to me was Rachel Hunter (then Mrs Rod Stewart). Even now, nearly 10 years later, I regret not even saying Hi, just so that I could get a smile out of her.
By the way, I'd love to have my car done up like hers was.
well i wondered what all the fuss was about as (afraid to admit it... but never heard of her)... until me see's the picture, now I understand !!!!!!!...
