Offline | Wakefield Track Day SAT 21st June I am attempting to get a group of people with Mini's to Wakefield Park Race track on Sat the 21st of June. I recently raced on this track in the Fast and Furious/Jracing track day where the mighty Mini came 6th outright and set an new unofficial FWD street car record for the track. 1.15:17 on the standard street Pirellis. Only Mods to my mini is a HiTech Cat back system and its lowered. 9am is the kickoff and you can get further information from the www.wakefieldpark.com.au web page on costs and location. If anyone wants to get information you can contact me on rxsoob@bigpond.com Giles. |

Offline | Hi, Whooaa! 1:15.17 on street tyres! Are you serious! That is way fast in a mini! The best I did last week was 1:16.5. We only did around 20 laps. My best lap was not "clean" and I could imagine I could pick up around another 0.7 seconds with a perfect lap. However, that is not close to your time. I would love to come along and see the lines and technique you are using to get that time. I would like to come along. However, I have tentatively made arrangements to go down to the snow for that weekend depending on the conditions. If the snow conditions are poor I'll come to Wakefield instead. Offline | Hi Robbo. I did 4 consistant 1.15 laps but was held up by many other cars. I think the group i was in was not expected to go that well. Fastest car of the day was a Race prepared R32 GTR which was doing 1.09 and 1.10 so i was not feeling to bad doing 1.15 on RunFlats Hope its not raining and hope to see you there |

Offline | Darryl, The clubmans are seriously fast! One of my friends father used to race them. He was doing 1:05 at Wakefield years ago, and from what I hear they are now doing under the minute! At the BMW track day last week there were 4 cars into 1:07's including a street registered GTR doing low 7's. The other 3 cars were M3's. However, I guarantee Boo and myself were having as much fun as anyone on the day in our minis Robbo |

Offline | I think lap record at Wakefield for clubbies is like 1.03 but thats a pretty highly developed dedicated racecar on very wide slicks. If a car with number plates is under 1.10 its seriously quick. You've hit the nail on the head Robbo, Boo and you will be having a ball and frankly if your getting to 16's or so its pretty quick. After doing some competitive stuff I'm pretty suss on the quality of lap times especially at track days/super sprints. Most if timed at all are on stop watches or someone in the tower manually hitting a keypad when a car passes a witches hat or such. The better ones have electronic timing but unless your carrying a triggering device in the car their still open to interpretation, remember we're talking about under a second between those buying the drinks. I've taken timing into my own hands with a relatively cheap gokart timing system. If your going to do some circuit work with a few mates buying one of these each is a really good thing as you can all use the one timing beacon. Trying different lines/car settings and getting instant feedback is brilliant and if your doing supersprints etc.. no more waiting for times to go up - around $430 - best thing I've ever bought - you just have to remember to retreive the damn beacon off the wall at the end of the day (I must be getting old and forgetful) 2003 MCS |

Offline | Hi, Fortunately the BMW club is on the ball and has the full on motorsport transponders timing laps down to thousandths of a second (I know as Boo beat me by 4/1000ths!). I have my own setup with a stopwatch in my car which records up to 100 laps. It sounds pretty crude, but when I compared the times I recorded at Wakefield compared to the transponder times I was usually within 1/10th of a second, with the largest discrepancy 2/10ths. That is good enough to know whether I have had a good lap or a stinker! Many people at the track days I go to have the timing setups similar to yours. Nice, but it is one more expense! By the way, one of the M3's doing 1:07's was also street registered and driven to the track on the day! Pretty impressive. The GTR is street registered, but is trailered to the track. Cheers Robbo |

Offline | We can't make this Track Day, but please keep us posted for any more in the future. I have driven my Prelude and Nick's pre-MINI, a Honda Civic VTiR, on the Wakefield track and loved it!!!!! Can't wait to give the MINI a go on the track That is, if I can get Nick out of the driver's seat for long enough! |

Offline | Well the track day was a great time out in the wet.... yes it absolutely poured down. Great thing about wakefield is that it has wonderfull drainage and is always open. about 30 cars turned out for the day including 18 WRX's a few GTR Nissans and one Sole MCS. You all missed a great oportunity to absolutly slaughter a large number of turbo4wd cars in there best element. The Mighty mini had the ASC light flashing every corner as i rapidly overtook all the cars that got on the track. 1 WRX gave me a little bit of trouble for 2 laps but he conceeded to the handling of the mini. Again a great day was had by all that turned up.... The MCS is making its mark at wakefield. |

Offline | Hi, Sounds like you had a great time. Boo and I also did a track day in the mini in very wet conditions, and the car performed brilliantly! Sorry I couldn't come along, I went skiing instead. Fortunately the rain you experienced turned into lots of fresh snow in the mountains, so I had a great time. Glad you kicked some turbo 4WD cars. I love the stories of mini kills on the track! Keep bringing them on. Robbo |

Offline | Hi, Thanks flipside for a reminder. I had a major "off" in my M3 which made me reconsider my priorities regarding track days. I hope the driver and instructor were OK. Canberra Cooper S love the pic, please post some MPEGS! Robbo. |
