Well, I'm an honest bloke, and when he asked "are you looking at trading in?" I had to say, "well... no. It's my folks car."

*groan groan* I know. I'd absolutely LOVE a MINI... but I couldn't make a new car a used car just to satisfy my test drive urge.

I should probably wait until I've got more money.

Hey Jugman, if you're really serious about getting a MINI get into a used Cooper for around $25,000. But that's a lot of money for a car when you're only 19. Finance & Baloon Payments are the key to owning a more expensive & newer car than you can really afford. BUT AT YOUR AGE BE CAREFUL. You really need a more secure income before the banks or finance companies will lend you money at a decent interest rate. Credit Union Australia has car loans for around 6 or 7 percent interest and you can finance a car that's up to 2 years old over a maximum period of 7 years. This means you could finance a $25,000 Cooper for around $336 per month, that's without a baloon payment. So at the end of 7 years you own the car, that's a good thing. But to payback that much per month you'll need to be earning at least $300 net per week. Lenders usually don't commit more than a 3rd of your income to debt repayments, and don't forget about fuel, tyres, insurance and most of all services on the MINI. There are some great finance offers out there and it's an easy way for a young guy to get into a nice car, but it's a big rope to tie around your neck at 19.

Just some advice from someone who's been there before, except I had a very ordinary but still very cool 1969 Austin 1800mk2 then a dodgy and rusty 1977 Corona . I don't think I got my first nice car till I was about 24 when my wife and I brought a 1990 Honda Accord in 1996, and after financing $25,000 back then at about 16% it was around $600 per month I think I was a radio operator at Yellow Cabs and making a piddly $400 per week.
I don't know how we did it, and if you said to me back then, in 6 years big guy you'll have a mortgage and a $45,000 MINI I would have said "Yeah Right!...as if they'll bring out a MINI that'll cost that much, interest rates will hit 5% before that happens you goose" Lucky no one said that to me.

02 MCS gone after 2 years of fun and new friends, and 10 visits to the service dept at Brisbane BMW.
You don't know the meaning of practical until you've owned a Camry! (seriously it's not a bad car though )

Well, it's okay, because I'm only EIGHTEEN!

Hell, I'll never say no to driving a MINI! I haven't yet, other than passenger. They had 3 manual ones in the dealership, so I'm open to testing out all the different types.

The Cooper is great. I have had one for over a year now. It does country and city driving and I love It I thought about a Cooper S then realised that I can lose my licence nearly as quick as I can in an S.. Any way I have a real Cooper S sitting in my garage....(my Mk1 1967) not the new copy . The Cooper I think looks better more simple plus no weird things can be put in the bonnet scoop

You made a very good point, can't argue with you there on the Banana issue.

Hehe,

I've got a cd (in my corolla of all cars) of a v8 with (virtually) no muffler. Mum and dad think it's great. It'd be a funny thing to give to a ricer...

I never actually use it of course, could it would deafen me trying to get the sound out of the car...
