Offline | Outstanding work! Just imagine the spectacle of that many Minis nose to tail through the Tassie scenic roads. It's almost enough to make me forget about work for a day and go for a drive (drool, drool). I'll be in it. Have heard it said that the only good roads tight enough to run a road rally and keep the speeds down are in Tasmania and South Australia. If the roads are half as good as they say then this is a not to be missed opportunity. BTW does the fuel include 98 octane fuels? Would be worth considering the availability in planning the route. ![]() Feb 02 R50 |

Offline | Hi dsakko, Thanks for the encouragement. I had an opportunity to drive in Tassy a few years ago and it is truly sensational territory for MINI owners. Probably the best collection of MINI roads anywhere in the country. I have a call in to BP/Castrol (Club Sponsor) to confirm locations for BP Ultimate (98 Octane) in Tasmania. There are BP outlets on the proposed route however we haven't been able to determine the availability of 'BP Ultimate' at these outlets. Will post as soon as we know. In addition, we will be checking availability of run flat tyres on our reccy in October. We may be providing a backup vehicle if we find there are problems associated with availability of MINI parts that may go wrong, not that we expect any. However a busted tyre way up in the mountains would certainly cause some issues. You can be assured we will have a solution for most mechanical problems if they occur. regards Last edited by cityclinic : Jul 30th, 2003 at 11:13 PM. |

Offline | This is a fantastic idea especially if we can ferry from Sydney straight to Tasmania ... no boring straight roads However I would not hold out much hope for 98 octane fuel I know for a fact that Shell does not ship Optimax to this part of the country due to the logistics involved as such I doubt that other oil companies would ...Maybe we could organise a tanker to follow us round? ![]() |

Offline | Brad, Great news to hear. I am sure that MINI owners would love the opertunity to do this run. I might have to bring a camera crew in a helicopter on this one to capture the monment and the scenery. I can see it now, can't wait. Coop's. |

| MINI Traitor | I would seriously love to go. However, our baby is due in November, so we'll have to see how that goes first. I'm really not sure that two weeks in a car with a 4 month old baby sounds like a good idea But I guess you never know ![]() How are you planning to handle the baby logistic issues, Brad? ![]() I must say that barring that little issue we'd be there with bells on I know that the Tourism Tasmania has a program with Octagon (the Targa organisers) where they supply all the stage maps, and you do the same path as the rally cars, and get a T-shirt for the effort ![]() |

Offline | Ours is also due in November. I am thinking of putting Elizabeth and baby up in a resort relatively central to the Drive route. Elizabeth also has relations in Hobart so we are thinking of making it family affair with the inlaws travelling down as well. Italians ..... family everywhere!! Maybe we can do a bulk baby deal with the resort and the family. Hey good idea Coops. With a helicopter, swamos and I can fly back for family visits. ![]() |

Offline | Sounds fantastic Brad. Peta and I might be expecting again by then but we'd both love to do a trip around Tassie. Might just need to leave the little bloke with the parents.... ![]() Marc Cooper S -Red/White, 17"Alloys HarmonKardon/ClimateControl/MFSW/XenonLights |

Offline | Thanks Brad for thinking in advance about the Tassie run. You can never beat good planning for a major event. There is nothing worse than a slaped together event that is pulled together in a few weeks. After ten years in major event production, aways the best events are well planned a year in advance. Maybe some other clubs could learn a thing or two from this. Good on you Brad, our family can plan and budget well in advance for the Tassie run to maximize the experience. Coop's. |

Offline | I can only guess that you may not have been involved in organising an event of this nature. If you don't start at least 8 months in advance of staging, you might be sleeping in tents. Now that's not a problem for some, however if you promise a warm bed and a nice open fire in a Tasmanian Winter and deliver tents, you might get strung up by the proverbials .... Call me sensitive but I'm not real keen on that outcome. In addition, most people need time to plan to take a week off and to save a few pennies for a holiday. Ponderous, maybe. I would like to think of it as good project management. |

| MINI2 Senior | I am just more concerned of stagnant clutter on MINI2. For the record my life centres around event management/PR/marketing and fully understand and appreciate the time needed to organise such events. But once again viewers on the MINI2 site get tired of the same ol’ same ol’ that's all. Maybe we could have a time limit on "Important" posts? Sounds like a good run however. |

Offline | Thanks Aussiemini, The run should be excellent by all accounts made even better by the great bunch people who own MINI's. Due to the nature of the event and planning required constant feedback is really the only way we can hope to meet everyones expectations. I do agree that same ol' same ol' can be boring however the Aussie area tends to be very active promising a constant stream of new content. A couple of stickies re club matters can't be all bad. | You are number 6 | Re: MINI Tasmania - May '04 [QUOTE We see this as a great opportunity to bring together MINI owners on the East Coast for a tour of the Southern Isle. QUOTE] This sounds too good to miss, are West Coast MINI owners allowed to join in the fun? I can put the car on the train to Adelaide and drive to Melbourne for the ferry. |

Offline | Re: Re: MINI Tasmania - May '04 Absolutely, it would be great to have you aboard Mike and of course anyone else who can make the journey. We have to restrict this one to 40 MINI's maximum due to the logistics involved. Once we post the registration form (October) it will have to be on a first come first served basis. Spots have already been allocated for sponsors, media, promotions and we can expect at least a couple of locals to join us. This brings the number available down to around 30. We can organise accomm in Sydney and Melbourne for those who need it prior getting on the ferry. Keep your eyes on this thread for updated info. Offline | This trip sounds fantastic. The ferries are very popular and need to be booked well in advance, so if you're keen to go then best get your name on to the list asap. Brad, great that you've started planning this one. Good time of year to go too. ![]() |

Offline | Hi eltel, Thanks for the tip. So far the hardest thing to organise is the accommodation along the route. Some places are easy others not so easy particularly for near on 80 pax. We will be placing the Tour with one of two groups who will package the whole event. Also having one of our guys design an ecoms page linked by url so we can register and pay deposits directly from MINI2. Should be ready by October. Offline | Hi Gary, Sounds chilling. Port Arthur is on the itinerary. We missed you on the July Drive. Was a really great run. We'll catch up in September. We have located a sole MINI owner in the wilderness of Tassie. Scenes of Deliverence. Seriously though, we have contacted the Dealer in Hobart and we are sure there will be a couple of Tassie owners joining us. ![]() |
