Drive-in night - The Italian Job in Melbourne

To all MINI and Mini owners in Victoria, the management of Coburg Drive-in are putting on a special event for us this coming Sunday night.

I received an email as follows

On Sunday August 17 the Coburg Drive-In will be hosting a preview screening of the movie "Italian Job".

The movie will commence at 7:00.

In association with this event we are also holding a "Mini
Muster". On all the invitations to the movie there are details of a meet for mini drivers at the Melbourne Zoo.

At approximately 5PM at the Melbourne Zoo carpark, Poplar road, a convoy of mini's (expected to be over 100) will depart the Melbourne zoo to attend the preview screening. We have the Herald Sun and other media covering the event.

We are expecting at least 400 cars, the majority of which will be classic cars and minis, to participate in the event and attend the screening. This represents eight hundred to one thousand people at the Coburg Drive-In.

As the movie is heavily associated with "Mini" we would like to invite
you to participate in the event to whatever extent you like.

As well as participating in the Mini Muster, there is also the opportunity to erect a stand and / or display at the drive-in. There is also plenty of room to show cars and generate your own publicity.

We are handing out a "Showbag" with mini and car associated material to all customers.

The Drive-In commences screening the film from August 21 and expect
approximately 20,000 people to move through the complex during its season so any displays / material can be utilised for the duration of the season, if you wish. This is definately an idea for you to consider.

I apologise for the late notice however we only just received confirmation ourselves. I am confident that your participation will not only ensure the success of the event but will also offer a great opportunity to promote your product.

Please contact myself to make the neccessary arrangements

Marketing representative
Lance Petherick

or the location 3954-1668 (after 6pm) for further information.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Please contact Lance if you are thinking of going. Lance will put your name on the guest list to make sure that there are sufficient spots left. He has already invited lots of owners, so please act quickly.

This is going to be one of those unique photo opportunities, and you also get free popcorn. So come along, doesn't matter how many are in each car, as the ticket lets in the car. No need to hide in the boot like we did in the 60's.

Excellent concept Terry, you guys should have a great time. I think we only have one Drive-in left in Sydney.

The film is very much a MINI movie and a lot of fun. All those MINI's at a Drive-in would add a great deal to the atmosphere.

Have a good night.

Well, the Drive-In night was pretty good. There were about 60 classic Minis and about 15 new MINIs. We met at the Zoo and went in convoy along Sydney Road to the Drive-In.

Unfortunately, it started to rain just before the movie started, and made things unsociable.

Thanks to ratboy and family, CoopeR and his delightful gf, zakdoggi and wife, and eltel for turning up. A few others put their apologies in.

zakdoggi mentioned that we might be able to attend a fun rally on Sun Oct 5th. More details will be posted later.

Thanks to Darren and Lance, management of the Drive-In. We really enjoyed the night. We might do a summer night when things warm up.
