Hi guys,
I am running short on time before I leave (and am away from a computer) for six weeks, so I haven't done a proper forum search for this topic - please point out if already done.
Ok, I wrote an e-mail to BMW Aust this week, with concerns about modifying the MINI and keeping the factory warranty. Below is what was sent back to me. From what I can gather and interpret from this, is that like the US, if the fault (warranty work) is not caused by the/a modification, then they will honour the warranty.
If anyone else has information contrary to this - can they let me know.

"Dear Mr ######, thank for your inquiry via the BMW website.

The MINI New Car Warranty will be honoured if a warranty claim is lodged during Warranty Period. However, if the claim is a result of any
modifications made to your MINI Cooper S that are not approved or recommend by MINI then this will be taken into account.

We hope this response is of some help and should you have any further
queries please do not hesitate to contact me.
