Offline | warped, congratulations.Hey could you let me know what they tell you the run-in period is - not the JCW stated run-in, but your fitting dealer's stated run-in distance. I am curious to know if every dealer is making up their own. So far I've heard 50km, 200km and the JCW stated 2000km. Have fun. |

Offline | good one Steve - I was picking up my S yesterday and Mark Manning told me your kit arrived during the week. He also said they'd already fitted one, but that guy put some money down before you did... I'm still around on the 15th - give me a call when you pick it up! |

Offline | Hi, Fantastic! It must be like Christmas as a kid, counting the number of sleeps to go! Ask Mark from BMW about the run in, and I bet he'll tell you not to worry and fang it from day 1! Robbo |

Offline | I will ask about the run in period when I drop the car off on the 15th ... from everything I have read if the engine has already been run in then no additional run in is required no doubt I will get dire warnings to the contrary Another 10 sleeps to go ![]() |

Offline | Warped, Contrary to original specs quoted at the beginning of the year, the works head comes fully built with new valves, cam etc. Original advice, was it was to be a short head and BMW would refit original valves and cam. Therefore there is always potential for damage to occur with completely new parts, however Bris BMW provided a free oil and filter change at kit fitting (4500km) which is outside the normal service schedule and not mentioned in the OEM fitting instructions. This at least made me feel a little easier about their short run-in statement. |

Offline | Hey bkwalker, If you don't mind me asking, why does the whole airbag wiring need to be replaced? BTW, your new side skirts look great. How much and who did it (install & paint) for you? Eddie Who's on First.... ![]() |

Offline | That's common - mine has been replaced two or three times. They say they get "high resistance" in those circuits ( ) which causes the warning light to come on.Which reminds me - there's a wiring loom with a fuse in it floating around in my boot since pickup up the car last week from them doing the airbag thing again - must chase that up! ![]() |

Offline | well basically AMIGO the aribag warning light came on and i took it in and they said they need to replace the whole wiring under the seat! it does't really bother me too much, i am dropping it in monday morning and will get a loan car which i cant wait to drive! im hoping for a 325ti or a cooper (to compare) or an M3 ![]() as for the side skirts! more then i wanted to pay basically... bought the parts which included 2 skirts and 2 door sills.. that cost 950 i think.. and then the installation was like 120 but the painting i got the dealers to do which was expensive.. like 5-600 they ripped me off there.. get it painted yourself at a smash repairer or something and then fit it yourself or get the dealer to fit if for 120 i got it done at col crawford! they are really good dealers i think.. but pricey benno |

Offline | Hey all Well had a quick drive of a JCW S today and it definitely put a smile on my face!It feels like an "M" version of a BMW than an aftermanufacture addition. You can see the extra engineering that has gone into it. A more serious exhaust and supercharger soundtrack without being over the top and the ability to hook up and go without seaching for a lower gear. The extra torque makes it easier around town and when you want to go for a gap serious urge is just a flex of your right heel away. Drove an Astra turbo the other day with a similar power output and it just wasn't anywhere near as eager or engaging. The only big problem will be holding on to your licence, major self control will be required as the car just encourages you to grab it by the scruff of the neck and have some fun. I envy those of you who are waiting for your kits now. Enjoy Leigh |

Offline | You should see if you can get another drive, once the head's loosened up a little and the exhaust has had a chance to burn in. Believe me, this takes the experience up another notch. It took the exhaust about 700km before it got the sweetest over-run burble and howling banshee wail at redline. At about 500km there also seemed to be a further jump in low end torque. It just keeps on getting better. |

Offline | Interesting comments kenhenry ... emailed JCW directly and they recommend a 500 mile run in for the kit even if your car has completed the standard MCS run in period ... seems that a little TLC after fitting is in order Poses a bit of a dilemma though ... I won't get the car back until Tuesday, maybe Wednesday next week and the drive day is on Sunday ... oh well I suppose I will just have to go for some long drives to bed the kit in Another 3 sleeps to go ![]() |

Offline | warped, Yeah I agree about the TLC thing, especially after the serve I gave the Taiwanese JCW S. However, I was prepared to do another 2000km run-in from fitment. The certificate that comes with the kit specifies 2000km, but I suspected that was for a new engine. So I talked to Bris BMWs top mechanic. The only one allowed to touch the Kits. This guy works 8 to 4, never on week ends, never, ever overtime, and never dirty jobs. His terms - Bris BMW either accepts them or loses him. He said that JCW does such a great job finishing the head, that he said 200km run-in max, 500km if you really, really want to. He also said, if it was his personal car and he had forked out the cash, he'd be happy with 50km just to ensure the cam and valves were settled in. Despite every BMW mechanic I have spoken to, recommending I stick with the 15000km oil service. He did a oil and filter change at fitting (only 5000km on the clock - which is what I was going to do myself). Not only that, but requested I didn't get charged. This is not included in the requirements for the fitting of the kit. It is just him being a perfectionist. I stuck within the original run-in revs for the entire 2500km on the new engine. After talking to him, 400km seemed fair enough on new oil. I stuck to this, except for one very short flirtation with a 355 Spyder at 350km. I trust this guy and am happy with the decision. I know you'll have the time of your life, once whatever run-in period you choose is over. Regards Ken Last edited by kenhenry : Sep 13th, 2003 at 09:12 AM. |

Offline | kenhenry That would make sense as I know how much the cooper I have freed up after about 3500km. I am sure that you will have even more fun than you have obviously had already ![]() What I really liked about the car was that it didn't feel at all modified, not peaky like a modified turbo car, more like somebody had shoved a 3 litre four under the hood and a decent exhaust reminding me of a porsche 944s2. Have fun......... Leigh |

Offline | Ken Great info ... I was pretty restrained with the original run in period with only one or two brief flirtations with the upper half of the rev range looks like I will only have to behave myself for a few days then Will also be requesting an oil change and minor service just to keep my baby in fighting trim Cheers Steve |
