came across this article on the internet......

Mini retired from GP race
BMW has decided to drop the Mini Cooper, replacing it with the 318ti Sports Compact, for next year's celebrity race at the Australian Grand Prix. But in doing so, its financial risk in the race will rise considerably.

The Minis used in the race for two years were John Cooper pre-production works cars worth about $40,000 each. The 318ti Compacts will be standard production cars (apart from modifications, such as roll cages) and sell for around $50,000.

"It is a significant commitment, but the value of (brand) exposure is well worth the effort," says BMW spokesman John Kananghinis.

What are other people's thoughts?

Let's petition!! There again at least it won't be as sad when we see one crash

Not surprised manufacturers rotate marquee's all the time to increase exposure across the range instead of just one model (especially if a model is already selling to maximum capacity like the MINI is)
