Unhappy Recommended repairer for windscreen chip?

On the way home tonight I managed to position my windscreen in front of a nice big flying stone windscreen is now chipped just above the driver's line of sight

The chip is crescent shaped, about half the size of a 5cent piece and be felt from the outside only as a slight dimple ... what is the best way in which to have this repaired? Any recommended repairers, preferably in the North Sydney area?

I'm really to keen to get this repaired asap as I do not want the crack growing So any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Thanks
Steve

Steve,

Your post has been up for a while and you've had no replies. Possibly, only because no one can answer. But you at least deserve a reply. I don't know whether Windscreens O'brien or O'brien Glass is a national chain, but they do repairs in Bris. Never had to use them, so can't vouch for them either way.

Only other way I can think of is hop on to www.yellowpages.com.au and do a search on windscreen repairs or the like. Good luck.

Ken

Hi Steve,

I have used Novus succesfully in the past. They will come to you and depending on the damage are relatively inexpensive. Certainly cheaper than a new windscreen.

Best regards

Steve,
I know from past experience (not in the MCS) that the likes of Novus etc. (i.e. stone chip repairers) are very wary of repairing any damage which is considered to be in the drivers line of vision. This is generally because you can get distortion (even a little) from the repair and will generally not pass vehicle inspection. Things may have changed, but it is worth checking to make sure that you are not spending money on a repair when you may then have to replace the screen to pass inspection.
Cheers

if you have BMW insurance I believe you get one free windscreen per year under their policy. I guess there has to be one other reason it's good to go with BMW apart from the fact they use approved-BMW repairers.

Thanks for the replies guys

I had the chip repaired yesterday by O'Briens glass for $74 so no new windscreen required There is a slight mark (apparently you should cover the chip as soon as possible with adhesive to prevent moisture and dust getting inside ) but given the amount of dirt the windscreen typically accumulates it is practically invisible.

Evilmini does however raise a good point and one perk of using O'Briens is that they will deduct the cost of the repair should you want to replace the windscreen in the future (eg you're not happy with the job) ... this is obviously based on them fixing the windscreen though

Cheers

I know I'm a bit late here, but I had Novus fix the chip I got on the drive day you passengered in my car on a few events back Steve. Same thing - a small mark there still, as I didn't have a patch to cover it after the incident, and they came to my house to fix it for $65.
