NSW BMW Club driver skills / track day 16/11

Hi,

The NSW BMW club is having a driver skills / track day at Wakefield Park (Goulburn) on Sunday 16/11.

For anybody who is interested in experiencing the sensational handling performance of the mini in a safe and legal environment, this is a perfect opportunity.

This meeting is an "end of year" event for the BMW club, and is a little different from normal trackdays.

The morning is a skills session. This will most likely involve slaloms between witches hats, timed performance tests, precision driving tests, hillclimb etc. This is the minis forte, and I am looking forward to seeing the mini vs the bigger heavier cars!

The afternoon is a track session. The wakefield circuit suits the mini as it is tight, and relatively low speed. It is also very safe, with wide runoff areas. Also in car instructors are available for beginners.

A CAMS licence is not required as a Wakefield Park yearly permit can be purchased for $30. However, if you are participating in the track session there are some safety requirements for your car.

I will be going, and it would be great to see some more minis! The BMW club is very friendly, and not at all snobbish. Even if you have never been on the track before you will not feel out of place, as the cars range from full on race cars down to classic cars that circulate at a leisurely pace, and all cars are grouped with cars of equal ability.

If you are interested in these events, but not ready to participate, it would be great to see you come along to have a look.

If anyone is interested you can find more details on the website at

www.bmwclubnsw.asn.au
follow links to calender and then to the meet. You can download entry forms.

If anyone needs more details contact David Atkin, who runs the day (details on the website) or email or PM me.

Robbo

I think I might be coming . If it is a timed track session in the afternoon, i'll do my best to make it as I havn't been to that track since 1998 in my Supercharged E46 323.

Hi,

Cool! More minis! We need more minis

If you have any questions or need advice at all, please post or PM me.If you are doing the track event you need a helmet and fire extinguisher. All the other requirements are easily done on the day.

Hi,

Strictly according to the CAMS regulations you need a 0.9kg (or greater) dry extinguisher, firmly fixed, and in reach of the driver, However, the commonest point to fix it is either to the front of the driver or passenger seat. Unnacceptable methods of fixation are tape, cable ties etc.

I managed to fix mine to the seat rails after 3 hours of drilling, swearing, cuts, cursing etc.

Your best option is to ring Nick Peak at Peak Performance, tell him you are going to the BMW club track day, and need a fire extinguisher fitted. You may as well get a bonnet restraint fitted at the same time. They will be able to fit both in a couple of hours for a very competative price. Nick really supports the BMW drive days, and will give a very reasonable price for people who are getting involved in the club and motorsport. While you are waiting check out the minis in the workshop getting all kinds of mods done including Hartge, turbos etc etc
