Offline | Has anyone been to Brisbane Mini Garage lately Out the front is a red and white John Cooper Works that a customer had on loan over a few days Apparently he reached down to pick up a set of sunnies and hit a gutter It's a very sad sight even the mag wheel has a big chunk missing of it I heard they had one there, so I was going to ask if I could be dropped into the city in it, until I saw it ![]() 1968 Mk1 Morris Cooper S 1310cc Downton Lake Green - White 1974 Leyland Mini 1098c Country Cream 2008 MINI Cooper S Chilli Pepper White - Black Roof |

Offline | I saw the car yesterday, totally ruined the subframe, bent the steering arm, wrecked front spoiler, and smashed one rim badly. To do all of this the driver obviously was doing more than picking up sunglasses. It's being repaired though!!!! 02 MCS gone after 2 years of fun and new friends, and 10 visits to the service dept at Brisbane BMW. You don't know the meaning of practical until you've owned a Camry! (seriously it's not a bad car though ) |

Offline | Next time anyone is down there. Get the VIN and Works Kit No. It will no doubt come up for sale at some stage. I wouldn't want any friend of mine buying that car. I am surprised it still hasn't been repaired yet. How long ago did the guy trash it? Must be at least a month. Anyway, he has blown it for the rest of us. I was told a couple of days after it happened. That Bris BMW would not be letting out a Works as a loaner ever again. Even to existing S owners, like the guy that was caught out doing the deed on this one. Anyone know yet, whether Bris BMW has taken action yet and whether his insurance company has refused to pay out? |

Offline | Apparently he is being sued for the repair bill and damage related costs. The damage was not so substantial that I would not buy that car if it was heavily discounted. It should be anyway as it will be a demo. My real concern would be the regular floggings that the car has recieved in test drives. Being a JCW Cooper S you can be sure it has been driven very hard indeed. :O :O I wonder what it will sell for when it sells? 02 MCS gone after 2 years of fun and new friends, and 10 visits to the service dept at Brisbane BMW. Offline | Even as a demo it'll still go for around $50K when it sells. You'd be doing well to afford that at 19 let alone the insurance. 02 MCS gone after 2 years of fun and new friends, and 10 visits to the service dept at Brisbane BMW. Offline | After 12 months of going nuts in my Cooper S I think you'd have to be doing something VERY STUPID to hit something in a MINI... and it ruins it for the rest of us! At least they are suing him for damages |

Offline | Since we all seem to find out one way or the other from our network. I think it's important, that we all, as MINI owners, keep track of the number of Works demos that are damaged during test drives. With the limited number of Works on the road, the stats for accidents per 1,000 vehicles that the insurance companies in Australia keep and share to determine the premiums on vechicle makes and models could be horrendously inflated. This could lead to outlandish premiums not only for Works owners, but S owners and possibly even Cooper owners. Maybe we need a thread that is simply a register of VIN No.s and known accidents in Works demos. It may not work, but it could give us a case to argue, if our premiums go through the roof because of these crash test dummies. Think of it, say 50 Works currently on the road in Oz - at least 2 demo prangs in the 4 months they have been available. That's 4% of this model pranged in 4 months. That alone is not encouraging from an insurance perspective. |

| MINI Traitor | Ken is right on the money here. If people keep decking (plane term) JCW's, then it is only a matter of time until our insurance rates go up. So far, we have been quite lucky. I believe that the solution to this is for people with JCWs to drive more carefully...... Unfortunately this is difficult to force people to do. I believe that in the meantime all MINI owners should make it their charge to test drive a WRX and crash it. That way the insurance companies will be so busy looking at WRX's they won't notice us ![]() |

Offline | Ken does have a good point. When I went to insure my Cooper RACQ said they charge the same rate as they do for a Cooper S... even though they are so dumb they don't know the difference premiums will go through the roof with lots of expensive claims like the Briz BMW Works demo. cjay. |

Offline | hmm Suncorp differentiates between cooper and cooper s. I think there was a $300 difference in premium for me. I think it is a good idea (the register of crashed works). Do dealers have to tell you if a car has been pranged or not? |

Offline | I have always thought that buying a demo Cooper S is madness anyway - let alone a demo JCW S - imagine the thrashing it would have copped (I know what I get up to in demo/loan vehicles )As for a damaged demo - the dealer wouldn't have to let you know, as in esscence it's just a second hand car... ![]() |
