Offline | Mini Performance Tuners in Sydney I am finally looking to put a reduced size pulley on my MCS. I understand that I can buy the special tools and do it myself... but are there performance shops in Sydney that have those and experience doing the fitting? Cheers |

Offline | I had my Hartge kit , brakes etc.. done at Peak Performance in Parramatta . Phone 9683 5577 and speak to Nick . Peak Performance is a Hartge agent and has been for many years . He will tell you what is good for your car and what not to wast your money on. |

Offline | Hi, I also got all the work done on my car at Peak Performance at Parramatta. I have been very happy with their service. By the way, although they are the Oz distributors for Hartge, they deal with many manufacturers. I am sure they would have no problem installing the helix pulley. They can also do ECU remaps. When I compete in the BMW club supersprints there are several guys there whose cars have been modded / maintained by Andrew at ALS. I have been very impressed with quality of there work also. Robbo |

Offline | Robbo and others, Thanks for the info. I got a quote from ALS of around $600 for the pulley work (they take apart the supercharger and bench mount it) - which seems a lot but may reflect the quality and detail of their work. Do others have approximate quotes on their installs they can share? The method used at pulley parties in the USA where the engine is raised slightly and the work is done on the car would appear more economical? Thanks! |

That doesn't sound quiet right as I was at the workshop when Andrew raised the motor, pulled the stock pulley off and fastened the new one in < 2hrs. Offline | Just spoke to Andrew from ALS. He is going to do a flat rate of $220 for pulley swaps. This includes the hire of the pulley puller. Bang for buck, you can't go past the pulley! Offline | Okay, The pulley has arrived. Helix was very prompt! ALS confirmed that they charge $220 plus the rental of the puller for $95 (it has to be shipped in from Melbourne) as the supplier usually sells the pulley and puller rental as a package. My mistake earlier was that the previous $600 quote was actually from Superior for their bench install. Sorry for that. But apparently there are no in-car pullers in Sydney shops?! Are there so few of these mods being done? Also, I guess I am a bit surprised that when I asked around one of the shops was trying to scare me into getting a $1400 ECU upgrade with my pulley upgrade... "your engine may well blow up and you will have to sign a release" !? I have thoroughly combed this and other chat sites and suppliers and there's been an emphatic consistency that there is no threat to the engine. The ECU mod will help performance that is all... Given the number of pulleys out there without ECU upgrades I am sure any sign of an issue would spread fast... I don't think that shop will ever get my business... So, I will soon book in. If anyone else needs the upgrade you may want to coordinate so that the rental of the equipment might work out cheaper? Thanks again everyone! ![]() Last edited by ozmini : Jan 15th, 2004 at 09:08 AM. |

Offline | Oz Mini! Your car will be transformed. Bang for buck nothing compares to upping the boost via the reduced pulley. Your engine is in no danger of blowing up or anything like that. In fact, using the orginal maps your car will run very rich. I had a dyno's done at ALS for b4 pulley, with pulley, with pulley and ECU remap. Big difference between with / without pulley but only about 8KW or so with ECU upgrade. The ECU seems to lean the fuel mixture off a bit to give a bit more surge at the top end. However, I can't comment on the transitional throttle feel as I didn't drive the car between dyno's. Anyway the extra boost is the foundation for real HP gains. Maybe get a dyno done for b4 and after from Andrew. Offline | Greendevil, Cheers for the reassurance. I can't understand why what was recommended as a reputable shop would need to stoop down so low to get business - he put on quite a rave about the risk I was taking! Oh, well... I think the dyno before and after sounds like a great idea, thanks! I'll report back once it is all done. |

Offline | I know the place you speak of, I was really dissappointed when the sales guy there played the same line when I was making enquiries the other day when I mentioned aftermarket pulleys. When I commented on the package offered (thats now been discounted $2k because of the competition available) that I didn't want the car to appear to be modified so wouldn't want the cold air box (that isn't sealed or vents to the outside and hence doesn't get either cold air nor provide the slight positive airpressure that a cold airbox is supposed to provide) he then commented, yep your right it doesn't do much the young guys just like the sound - now that may be correct but he's just spent 10 mins telling me how great it all was. Used to be a really no nonsense place to deal with. 2003 MCS |
