BMW NSW club trackday 31/7

Hi,

Yesterday I went out to the NSW BMW club track day at Wakefield Park Goulburn. It was a great day with a good mini representation.

Racing on the track were myself, Trelo, and Peak Performance's mini driven by Kerry from Peak and one of Nick Peak's friends.

Erin Olsen also came along to watch. Erin's pepper white/ pepper white combo with black wheels looks awesome

I think everyone there had a great time, and performed well on the track.

Kerry from Peak had never been on a racetrack before, but did very well, gradually improving her times during the day. She started off slowly, with an instructor. Through the day as she gained confidence she progressively improved. Hopefully she will compete again next time.

Trelo's car was awesome to watch on the track. Due to his lack of cat he was throwing flames out of his exhaust when he backed of the gas at the end of the straight . Pity I didn't get a picture. His car sounded incredible on the rev limiter at the end of the straight. Unfortunately Trelo's tyres were looking a little ragged at the end of the day

I was very happy with my performance, taking half a second off my previous best and doing a 1:14.1

The minis embarrassed some high performance cars, beating some M3's and even an M3R (racecar).

One of the club members brought along his new M3CSL , but didn't take it on the track.

If anyone is interesting in participating or coming along to watch, the next event is on 7th March at Oran Park. Details can be found on the BMW club website, http://www.bmwclubnsw.asn.au . You can get further information by contacting David Atkin, whose details are on the website. It would be great to see some more mini participants.

Attached are some photos from the day

Robbo, It was good to finally meet you two ( ROBBO & TRELO ). The day from an outsiders perspective was well run, & thanks for showing me around your car & giving me some (PRACTICAL)ideas about setting up my own car.
There were some very fast cars there yesterday, but the MINIs managed to kick sand in most of their faces. Most impressivly was a CERTAIN brg/w mcs that was faster all day than a new 911
GT3 & a host of "M" cars.
Id also like to add that everyone was very friendly & helpful. It was good to NICK from PEAK was there with support to all of his customers (AND THERE WERE A FEW). He was also very helpful in giving me ideas for my own car.
It would be good to see more MINIs at these events. A few eyebrows were raised yesterday & some converts to MINI were forged.

According to NICK the yellow MCS had RPM extractors RPM s/c upgrade & software upgrade. The car was still running std induction system & std exhaust.
The only other mods he (NICK) told me of were different springs.

Question

so it's pretty much an RPM demo then... interesting to hear comments on how it went & sounded [modified SC, but no CAI & stock exhaust probably mean little difference there] compared with stock & versus the hartge boys!?!

when talking to nick on the phone last week i couldn't get him to make a comparison of the RPM & Hartge kits, except for inclusions & price of course!

did any MINI2ers get to drive it?

Some pictures of Chris' car belching flame would have been great

Good time Robbo slowly edging closer to the MINI record of 1.11.73 (1971 Cooper S) Don't know how they plan to handle new MINI times versus old MINI times, maybe time for a new category

Gaz, I must say the yellow car had a nice throughty sound , even without the exhaust. S/C whine was also noticeable. Once this car is sorted It should be a nice little car.

Robbo & TRELO s cars also had their own tunes to play.

Robbos car runs a HI TECH muffler & had a nice tuned , deep sound as it pulled peak revs down the straight.

Trellos car has the HARTGE gear and also no cat. To me the car sounded raw & angry especially hitting the rev limitter on the straight. And the flames from the rear on backing off certainly looked the goods.

I liked the sounds of both cars, yesterday was a good comparison for both. I must confess to having the HI TECH system on my last MCS & was very happy with quality & performance. For the price I think LAMBROS ' products are good value & OZZY made.

Hi,

The Peak Performance car is actually the personal car of Kerry. Nick bought it from BMW as a wreck. I am not sure of the details, but somehow the car was severely damaged before being registered. He has rebuilt it over the last 6 months and it is now Kerry's car. Nick of course wants to put lots of bits and pieces on it, but Kerry wants a "normal" car

At the moment the car has the RPM pulley and ECU re-map, and extractors. Also it has some tasty wheels, but is otherwise stock.

My bet is that Nick will win the family argument, and the car will end up with loads of mods

Robbo

Hi,

The mini record was set by a full on racecar.

I think if I want to beat that I might have to strip the car, rip the exhaust system out and pipe it out the side, do engine internal mods, strip out the air-conditioning, stereo and body panels and put on a set of super sticky slicks .

mmm.... dont put thoughts in my head

it's bloody hard to find out anything about this RPM kit... sounds like a reasonable investment, but i've not read of anybody who has actually driven a modded S, let alone purchased the conversion for their own car! hmmm...

i'm also wondering why the leopard-skin light-covers haven't rated a mention yet - nice!

Gaz , I think those covers would look a treat on your car & I m sure you d win lots of admiration from the TAMWORTH locals.
As for the RPM gear Id like to drive the yellow car before i make any final decisions.

Sounds like you have already thought about it with no help from myself

And I doubt that the mods would need to be that excessive ... exhaust, engine and nice set of slicks would probably see you right

Those Tasty Wheels where on my car once upon a time , I sold them to Nick.
Thanks for a great day boys . All was good , but KILLED my tyres . Going to Peak to get the front camber plates on and see if they can do anything. Dont want to go with the Harder springs as I want to drive the car everyday with the softness it has now ( not good for the track but lovely on the road ).

I got the flames on my Video Camera which my friend was filming . I will see if I can get a still using the software that come with the camera with my computer. I will post it in this thread if I succeed .
