Liam,

I completed just over 425 km today, with an average consumption of 9.7l/100km!!

I drove to Melbourne to meet up with 5 cars, then on to Geelong where we met up with 3 cars, on to the Historic archway, Lorne, Wye River (where I saw the best FWD drift I've ever seen - down hill righthand sweeper went for bout 100m!! Very controlled!!) to Apollo Bay.
We had a great lunch at the pub and chat about MiniClubs with Bill, and future Mini stuff.

Before heading to the pier for some cool shots - thanks for the loc. Dale!!

We then returned home via the Otway Forrest road, which was sensational - give or take one Toorak tractor.

We then took a back road off the highway - local knowledge is priceless - for a good few kilometres of corners and long straights! (read between lines)

Before driving to the "Barking Dog" for a coffee and cake.... then home!!

Todd

Guys,
Somebody stuffed up today! And sorry to those who were left out in the cold.
Most of us Doncaster crew were directed to meet at Point Cook Shell @ 6.45am and head off from there.
Had no idea we weren't going to hook up with you guys at Geelong. Did not think to check with anybody.....just followed everybody else.
Cruised on down to Lorne for brekky and then.....when heading home early because of other commitments....saw you guys roll into Lorne at about I guess 9.30 - 9.45??. The rest had already headed off to Apollo Bay by then.
A BIG SORRY!!!!!!! (from me anyway)
Hope to catch up with you PROPERLY next time around.
We'll need to make sure everybody is reading the same map!!!
Am posting some photos (stills from my video - so pls excuse the quality) in the mini2.com.au gallery over the next hour or so.
Cheers.....Geoff

Excellent. And here I was thinking our Outback would be our road trip car now! I think I need to play follow the Red&black S along GOR one day.

Out of curiosity, where does the doncaster crew arrange their meets? (as in, online, by phone, whatever). I'm not having a dig, but it seems to me that if there's a post on here for a couple of months arranging the drive, and then someone arranges something different, there's something not quite right....

(hence the 'noncaster' line in the topic now, it felt today like there was the 'doncaster crew' and the 'noncaster crew')

Michael

Michael,
The Doncaster crew drives are arranged for the first Sunday of every month via email from our Doncaster MINI Garage service manager. Obviously the wires got crossed along the way and I believe the suggested GOR run was taken on seperately by both groups, some believing it to be the joint run as organised by you guys and others believing it to be the DMG run. You have every right to have a dig. As I said, lets hope we get it right next time.
As Foundation Member No 50 of MINI2 Australia, I am keen to make sure our social events for MINI2 owners are fun, memorable and very, very sociable. So please don't be too p.....ed off with us........we really are a good bunch of folk!!
Cheers......Geoff

PS: For future events, I am happy to volunteer to ensure the eastern suburbs mob are more organised next time!! Just PM me with details.

BTW!! Your car looks great with the fat viper stripes on it!!
Do you ever get much flack from the police?

I take it from your attendance, that you have your suspension problem fixed?

Thanks again Todd,
No hassles from the police. Went through a breathalyser recently and all the young constables were interested in was "How fast does it go?"

Yeah, I wrote off the left side front and rear strut and trailing arm in the rain over the Anzac Day weekend.....Off the road for 4 weeks reacquainting myself with my wife's Renault Scenic!! Not the same really!! Had to wait for the strut to come from Germany. Thankfully it only took 3 weeks to arrive!!
Cheers.....Geoff

if your car is OTR [Off The Road] then BMW/MINI Australia should be able to do better than that geoff!

my wife's PUG 307 got a cracked windscreen & when the dealer lodged it as OTR they flew a replacement in from france [or wherever]!
the fact they didn't have one in australia still amazes me though!

thanks for the explanation Geoff, it does sound like we may have been making a bit of a mountain out of a molehill, at least I hope that's the case. The last thing we need is 'factions'!!!
Here's to the next cruise, with everybody involved
