Italy Scooter Culture vs MINI Culture

All of this week, starting from Monday, at my favourite Café (Latteria) on Victoria Street, Sydney, a Scooter promotion has been taking place with four motor scooters parked out the front of the cafe, in the street, in true Italian style. During this week-long event, I have seen a growing number of scooters join the event and gather alongside these four parked scooters. Not unlike a MINI Club event, scooter riders seem to have this same group or mob mentality.
MINI and Scooter owners: Are we stuck in sixty’s culture or do we just love our toys?
I would be keen to hear comments on what other MINI2 members think of this, especially if they own a MINI and a scooter, like I do.

Coop’s.

Café event in Sydney: www.apriliascooters.com.au check it out!

I think that they are probably similar in that they are attracted to things that are outside the norm. I didn't know much about the group mentality of the MINI until after getting it, and scooter buyers are probably similar. I think we are drawn together through a common interest that is a bit unusual

Before the Mini's I used to own a HSV, and was in a club. It was NOTHING like owning and being in the mini club. They b!tched about who's car was quicker/lower/optioned.
It didn't matter before when I only had a Cooper, no-one said anything, and accepted me because I had a Mini !.

I have to agree. I knew about scooter clubs years before I knew about Mini clubs, and my first car was a Mini Panel van.

I know, it's cool that all the people that go on the run days are all so chilled and no ego's... Maybe one or two?

Yes mate! not like you young whipper snapper's with these "Hi Tech New Fandangled machines" that you are about to get.

In the old days, If ya diden't put a plastic bag over my dizzy cap in the wet, the old Mini woulden't go. Dead! Stuffed! Listen to the radio for an hour and wait for the NRMA. Buggered with no mobile phone to call work to say you where going to be late. "Mate" I am old school

Certainly a different set of rules now, champ... Electronic engines, computer controlled... Gone are the days when you could hit the engine with a sledge to make it go again

I can remember my mother telling me about her old mini and the plastic cover

We saw some (I think theyre Vespas?) down at the Sydney show last year. The top of the line one my cousin wanted for his Mrs was more complicated than a supercomputer

Had this flip up dial button pad thing on the handles with all these crazy options and features... Blew me away

Yeah, he rides a new Blue & White Mojito 150 Custom. His last one was the Black 150cc which sold on Ebay for $18,500.00 AUD. Crazy!!!

No a bad return, seeing he got it for free.

Hey Todd,

You will need the MINI if you get the 50's Vespa, I see a lot of guy's pushing them on the side of the road in Sydney. Most of the restore one come out of India as the old two stroke's where banned in Italy a few years ago..

Mate, you need one on these babies in Red:

Rubber glove with the end of the fingers cutout full of silicone over the dizzy cap work a treat,It was just hard to remove the dizzy cap. Only stopped once in the rain , added this Mod and it ran, sun or rain. As for the lack of travel in the clutch master cylinder A 2 cent coin worked well and was the exact diameter and gave you 2 mm extra travel. Just some samples of things that you needed the do the get your old mini to go. Those were the days of driving by the seat of your pants.

Nice work, if I had of done that my Mum would of killed me in those days. It was bad enough that I used to nick her Chux Super wipes to clean the engine bay, and the bottle brush to clean my mags.

What son's do at 18, and funny how things realy havent changed 22 years later.
