Hi,

Yes it is the alluminium panel behind the bumper that has taken the most damage.

I have a "protected" no claim bonus, which means I can never lose the no claim on this policy However, from past experience, that means that if you make claims they bump the excess up.

My policy is with NRMA. They still believe in the "act of god" which means an animal strike doesn't lose your NCB

Cool I'll remember that at renewal time, because I think RACQ dumped that when they merged with GIO.

According to my quote it's $268.61 for the reinforcement bar behind the bumper, and $360 for a front bumper, and about another $100 or so for the other bits (clips, chrome and lower grille parts etc etc)

Then you'd have to get the parts painted

Hmmm.. I dont have to worry about that though with GIO. (They gave me my best quote on the MCS).

Only accumulated a 40% no claims so far in driving...

Wow robbo i'm so jealous....congrats!

Nice colour choice...but I think a 2 BRG/W family would be even better! (ok i'm not trying to start another argument about colours )

Make sure you post dome pics when Maddie and Sparky are reunited!

Where have I been for all these months?

Robbo, congrats! ......EB/B is a good looking combo. Wow didn't know that there were so many 2 MINI families. I'm thinking maybe a JCW addition to the family is not too obsessive an idea after all mmmmm.....

Hope maddie recovers soon and wish I could join you guys in tassie but business calls....have a great drive and no more roos!

Hi,

Just an update. I now have the old car (maddie) back from Peak performance, and have had more chances to drive the cars back to back

Some things I noticed :

* The clutch on Maddie is way heavier and stiffer. Not sure why?
* I love the new style steering wheel It's a subtle change, but it looks a lot better
* I don't like the new compartment beneath the steering wheel. The old car has a quite useful shelf, the new car has this all closed in with only a small usuable compartment
* I like the climate control. Seems to work well
* The computer function is different on the cars. The new car has a instantaneous fuel consumption reading, in addition to overall fuel consumption. Not much use really though.
* The new style pedals on the new car are a lot better. They look great Also, on Maddie the rubber covers on the old style pedals keep falling off

However, both are great cars

Maddie goes to be assessed at the smash repair place tomorrow. Once she gets fixed I'll post some side by side photos.

Robbo

I noticed that newer build cars have much lighter clutches...a few months ago I took a JCW for a test drive at Parramatta and then for a comparison hopped into an older build car and noticed quite a difference. Personally, I prefer the older style clutch...the new one feels too much my Cooper!

I wonder if you can get the mechanics to reset our older build computer functions so that they display an instantaneous fuel consumption reading? Shouldn't take much more than a bit of reprogramming?

Where have I been for all these months?

Robbo,

Some interesting observations. I agree that the shelf in the front of the older cars is much more useful. The older cars also have a different clutch. It was changed (I think) because the older clutch is crap (and that's being nice)

It operates fine, but the pedal movement when the car is warmed up can be really sticky. Some days I feel like I'm putting my left foot into a box of corn flakes, and I've driven three other Cooper S's of around the same build as mine (mid-late 2002, which I guess yours is close to also?) and they've all exhibited the same problem. I've been back to Mark Manning about 5 times to try and get it sorted, and they best they've done so far is replace the slave cylinder, which hasn't really helped...

Anyway, yes, the clutch is most definately different. I wouldn't mind a new steering wheel though

Tim
