Offline | We have become a 2 mini family! Hi, This week I picked up a new mini, so we are now officially a 2 mini family As some of you know, I previously had a BMW E46 M3, which was a lovely car. However, it is not the kind of car you can drive every day. Originally I was using the M3 for trackdays, but gave that away because it was too expensive on parts, and the mini is faster and more fun anyway. My other car, is Maddie the Mini, which I absolutely love. However, I have gone so far down the lines of modifications, that she is not entirely ideal for everyday usage either. So a plot was hatched, sell the M3 while I could still get a good price, and buy a more practical everyday car, which my wife would like as well, as we would be sharing the car. There was only one obvious choice After driving a cooper CVT I realised I needed a manual. Looking at the price differential between Cooper and Cooper S I decided to go with an S. In the end, with input from Katie, my daughter, who is a complete mini nut we decided on : · Electric Blue / Black : not a common combo, but looks great · Lapis blue leather · DSC · 16 inch standard wheels in silver · Xenons · HK stereo · Climate control · Auto wipers Katie also decided on a name for the new car, SPARKY I traded the M3, and got a good deal on the mini from Alto BMW (thanks to Scott and Erin for all the help). I intended to buy from Parramatta, as I have bought many previous cars there, but they couldn’t match the deal from Alto As part of the plan, I wanted to keep the whole thing secret, and make it a complete surprise for my wife. Therefore I didn’t say anything on the boards or on drive days, as she surfs the boards as well. Unfortunately, being a woman, she had sussed things out, and knew . However, she kept quiet, and let me spring the surprise. She loves the car, in fact we all do Unfortunately, Maddie is still at the workshop getting some attention, so I still don’t have the thrill of having 2 minis to choose from yet, but it wont be long. Things have worked out well, as Maddie may not be fixed in time for Tasminia, so I can take Sparky for a nice run in We have been driving the car all weekend, and all of us love it. It is interesting comparing to Maddie who has all the mods. I am surprised by the power of the stock S. Maddie has a lot more get off the line (less hesitation), and has a lot more top end power above 5000rpm, but the difference is less dramatic than I imagined. The power of the S is fine for street driving. The induction / supercharger whine in Maddie is way louder (in a nice way). The suspension on the stock car is lovely. Stiff enough to handle nicely on smooth and bumpy roads, without being too harsh. Interestingly the brakes are the biggest noticeable difference. With the track pads, Maddies brakes have enormous bite and stopping power. The stock brakes feel a little weak. I know Eltel is also from a 2 mini family. Any others out their? I think Bob mentioned having 3 minis, but not all at the same time? I can’t wait to get maddie back to get some shots of the two cars together, and also to have the thrill of being able to choose which mini in the morning Attached are a few pics Cheers Robbo Mods: GO MADDIE and SPARKY! |

Offline | Congratulations robbo. I've got two MINIs, one is a Cooper S 02 model and the new one is a Cooper S JCW 04 model, and I love them both. The 04 model has H/K and phone doodads but is almost identical to my first MINI. I'm doing them both up to look identical especially with signage to promote my company. I intend tracking both of them a little with the JCW one copping most of the workouts, i think. I'm still running the 04 one in but then I'll spend equal time in them. My wife won't drive them so my son keeps the engine warm, so to speak. |

Offline | By the way, robbo, those X-lites are much harder to clean than our 5-spokes. I'm going to swap my tyres onto my spare 5-spokes and get the wheels matching on both cars. Sparky looks lovely, very different from Maddie, but very nice indeed. |

Offline | Damn , ive just realised that you re catching up to me on the mini ownership stakes. One more to go mate ! i recently tried to make our house a 2 MINI home as well. My partner Heidi works for A large real estate company that offer their employes a MINI as a company car. However she declined and kept her own rather boring German car quoting to me that she doesn t like Bavarian Junk Cars. Maybe i should speak to Scotty ( ALTOS ) - when are those facelift cars due again ! |
