Yeah I know. As there are so many MINIs headed for Wakefield for those magic 6 laps I thought it would be best to represent the cause at Eastern Creek. I tell ya wot, that new oil cooler is magic. Typically for everyday driving the oil temp sits just a touch under 100C. Now its around 80C. Oil capacity is raised by approx. 1.5L and I'm real keen to give the ol' Greendevil a right flogging!!

I know , the oil coolers are magic. On the track once , my oil temp rose to 145deg , after I put the oil cooler on it wouldn't go over 110deg on the track

With these great cool mornings now it gives the car a nice supercharged "thump" when ya press the pedal. I am trying to do as much driving as I can at the moment. Sometimes I get up at around 5.30am and take the car out to parts of Alexandria - especially Canal Rd., which has a nice "S" sequence which I'll hit pretty hard and then double back and take it again in the opposite direction. However, by 6.30am the party is pretty much over as the trucks and public traffic has built up too much to be safe..

Hi Carl,

Be careful at the open day at Eastern Creek. Last time there was a lot of traffic.

Make sure you let them know you are a CAMS license holder when you sign up, as they put the CAMS people in there own group, separate from all the loonies in the HSV's / sik Jap cars etc

I notice they have put the price up. Last time it was under $100, now it is around $130 or so ??

Hi Bob,

You can check out the specs for the R1Rs at www.toyo.com.au
My purchased size was 205/50/16 @ $245 each fitted/balanced (rims 16x7)
On the recommendation of David Atkin who heads up the motorsport area of the BMW Club I saw Russell @ Blair's Tyres in Peakhurst 9584 2777.
Looking forward to putting them through their paces at Oran Park on Saturday! I'll provide some field comments about them after that.

Rgds

Carl

I hear ya Robbo. I'll re-confirm my CAMS status upon the morning signon.

It does appear that they have jacked up the fees to $130

As strange as it may seem, I actually like the potpourri of vehicles that turn up to these events.. A little bit like Campbell Parade/George St. on a Saturday night - however, those 20" chromies, 6" muflfer cans and 400W stereos will be of no help whatsoever That's part of the fun I guess. And gee, those boyz don't like been overtaken by a MINI!!

BTW - impressive time with the 1/4 mile Do you think it may be possible to be even quicker over that distance with 15" wheels? Here is a calculator for tyre revs per minute - more rpm should = faster acceleration ?? http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

Have fun Carl, however, be careful Having a driver with chromies, 4 inch muffler cans, and 40 grand invested in his car, with his girlfriend and mates watching , desperate to hold off a mini, despite his complete lack of driving skills is a potential recipe for disaster Give the other drivers a wide berth

The 1/4 run was in Boos car, Sworks so it was on 17's

Hopefully after the next Burrows drive day we should be able to give you some more meaningful information about rim / tyre size. Boo and myself are planning to drive our own and each others car, then swap the wheels on the cars and drive both again. A back to back performance of the Works vs Hartge, 17" vs 16" wheels, Whiteline vs Peak suspension It should make interesting reading

Cheers

Robbo

Will do. Although driver discipline will be important too if/when a MINI motorsport calendar starts up as it is quiet feasible that you could have 10 cars/drivers within 2-3 secs of each other at a track like Eastern Creek.

I didn't realise On the 1/4 mile run what was your last gear change? Did you pull each gear at max rpm or short shift? Slightly off topic, however, the UK press consistantly harp on about the superiority of the handling characteristics of the 16s over 17s ie. "the modest 16in alloys are far better dynamically speaking than the Minilite-alike 17-inchers" and "Dunlop run-flats gain too much vertical momentum for the springs and dampers to keep under tight control"
Hopefully after the next Burrows drive day we should be able to give you some more meaningful information about rim / tyre size. Better than reading Motoring journals Robbo. Can't wait!! Top marks to Boo and Yourself for sharing your collaborative experience. Most appreciated.Rgds
Carl

Trelo,

Would it be possible to come along and just spectate, or will that cost something?

Thanks Brad. It would be neat to get brief intro into a track day. Would you have any details (session start, or meeting points) for the day?

Cheers,
Eddie
