well I got the poops with the custom headers i had made up cracking on me all the time right next to the head so i had the Factory headers modified yesterday...
Its very sad to see how restrictive the factory header is.
You're right about the AP's but the Brembos are about 500-600 more. Got them...unbelievable power.
Apparently the Ap's are great for all-purpose as they dont overbear the front.
The Australian Academy of MotorSports (lofty title) is having a driving instruction day this Saturday. You get plenty of track time and they have some fun activities in the afternoon where you can perfect your handbrake turns or launches for 0-100 timings. It is $295 which is fair value I guess. Give Simone 9899 3451 or 0416 029 329 a call.
At this stage I think I am the only MINI2 person going. Unfortunately I am getting used to being the only Mini at the track these days However, the Mini is always warmly welcomed at every track meet by other drivers and officials. That makes flying the flag fun
Hope to see you there MadDog. I'll post some pix afterwards as well.

All this work stuff is definitely getting in the way i think.
Can someone please explain to me why i would do something so stupid as to go from 3 years holiday to starting 2 businesses????
Why didn't someone slap some sense into me
What did you do to the factory headers? I made the mistake of cutting out the venturi bend and actually lost power.. At first glance it looks like a restrictive bend due to the narrowing in the middle. In fact it is engineered that way to help speed up the exhaust gas flow - a bit like putting your thumb on the tip of hose to speed up the velocity of the water spurt.
venturi: a short tube with a tapering constriction in the middle that causes an increase in the velocity of flow of a fluid and a corresponding decrease in fluid pressure and that is used especially in measuring fluid flow or for creating a suction
I had overlooked this important question: Why's it engineered into the stock MCS exhaust if it'd be less restrictive without it?
It might be worthwhile to do a before and after dyno as my crack at making the stock headers better didn't work out..

Hey i will post the new pics once i get a chance to get under the car... did a test run with a G-Tech pro before and after with a mate and the gain was about 4kw. (G-tech not the best way to get a KW at the wheels figure but its been within 1kw of the official dyno figures) 118kw at the front wheels. Believe the standard is 107KW at the wheels when i had it done. The guys at the Exhaust shop explained that alot of factory headers have this Venturi style in them but its rare to see it on a Forced induction car. You have to remember the Cooper and MCS run the same headers. The Restriction was designed to create back preasure for the Cooper engine so that the exhaust valves are not burnt out. I get your point but think that something major went wrong with the shop that did yours if you lost power. Think of aftermarket headers... theres no restriction at all.. its all high flow >>>get the hell out of the engine type stuff.
I had the 4-1 collecter cut off and the shop did some work to redesign the collector then a flex joint and then two mandrel bends to the cat, which is still removable. The cars 2db louder with the tester i have up to 86 DB at 4000 RPM. Which is still within limits i believe.
They didnt use 2 1/2 inch pipe like from the cat back as they said for one theres no point as its only a 1600sc engine and it probably will never fill a 2 1/2 pipe. so a 2 1/4 stainless was used and its a nice fit.
Tis funny im seeing a gain with a stuffed throttle body... gets replaced under warranty.. turns out that when i was racing at wakefield i was only ever getting 3/4 throttle. and thats all the computer saw at least so i never got full injector timming going. knowing my luck though they will break something else when they fix this!!!
Have you still maintained the standard length primaries? After my headers were butchered (on the advice of well patronised Sydney BMW/Mini tuner) I cut my losses and bought a Milltek system including a high-flow cat. Not great bang for buck but can't live with myself knowing I have LESS power post-mod

Didnt touch the Tuned primaries as they are the only part worth holding onto.. they cleaned up where they collect removing the pipe squash that happens there... will post the pics after work today. I did see a gain, so im happy
