Offline | Hi, For people participating in BMW club events, there have been some changes. After the last round at Wakefield park, they have re-classified me from group C to group D Here is a copy of the correspondence from David Atkin : I meant to talk to you about that on the weekend but got sidetracked. We have reviewed the classification of new MINIs to: Cooper Class A Cooper S stock on road tyres Class B Cooper S stock on R tyres Class C Cooper S with works kit or equivalent modifications to increase power from standard Class C Above with R tyres Class D Your car fits into the last category hence I have recalculated the points for Classes C & D[/ I guess that is reasonably fair in principle, but its a bit hard mid season However, they seem to have only reclassified me, and left Boo, Trelo, GreenDevil and Stu Jones in the previous class Cheers Robbo Mods: GO MADDIE and SPARKY! |

Offline | Yeah, based on this reckoning I should be in Class C, Boo, Trelo, Stu Jones and Yourself in Class D. I might "one click" the Ol' Greendevil and see if I can stay in B Class D! Wow, and Robbo you still got 10 points ![]() BMW E36 M3R Alpine White - Engine : 6 cylinder; DOHC 24 valve Capacity : 2990cc Power : 243KW @ 7000 rpm Torque : 323NM @ 3900rpm Produced : Jan - May 1995 How many :15 ONLY |

Offline | Hi, Thats the irony, I won D class , but would have come third in C class I think it is a bit unfair, as I am now up against Arthur Scerri, who has a BMW compact, with non original engine (replaced 1.8 for 2.8l) and then supercharged it Cheers Robbo Mods: GO MADDIE and SPARKY! |

Offline | Technically Atkin is right .. the solution really is to develop sufficient numbers of track-going Minis so comparable standards of Minis can run together. Arthur's and your car is an excellent example how the Club rules for Minis don't quiet work. Offline | Hi Carl, It would be excellent if we could get enough minis to get two classes, standard minis and modified minis, as they do for "M" cars. I agree that David is probably right with the re-classification. I felt uncomfortable competing with Andrei in his Z4. He is running completely stock, with street tyres with a 3l engine. Under CAMS / Targa Tassie rules our 1.6l engine is reclassified as 2.7 with the supercharger, but I have cold air intake, headers, exhaust, suspension, track tyres etc, etc. If they want to put me in D class, bring it on However, I think they should look at Arthur's classification, and have emailed David about that. The other cars in D class, eg David, Jason, John etc are not dissimilar to our cars Personally, I dont care about the classes, and I benchmark myself against cars that do similar times, regardless of class. I try to beat minis and similar paced cars, regardless of class Robbo Mods: GO MADDIE and SPARKY! |

Offline | Andrew, that is certainly the right attitude to take. With Trelo, Boo and Stu Jones joining you in D class there will be a group of similar paced cars to benchmark yourself. I'll move to C class from B (as I will retain non-R spec tyres for BMW Club events) and see out the rest of the season there. Semi-slicks, harness and other things to come next year.. I am sure more Minis will join the ranks which will make cars like Arthur's creation more of an oddity (why doesn't he just buy an M3?) Also, did you check out Francis Chow's time of 1:31 in a stock Cooper S with runflats. Better keep an eye on him! Looking forward to Eastern Creek now with my new buddies in Class C!! Offline | Hi, I'll be away skiing I go away for one week, and I'm going to miss a Burrows drive day, launch party for the East Coast Rally and a practise day However, the snow is good KenHenry who is taking his mini on the ski trip has promised me I can do some driver training in his mini on the snow covered car park at Smiggs Are you going to the BDD Stu? It is good value compared to the open day when you consider that you get the same amount of tracktime on EC, but BDD has 6 instructors, and is well controlled. The open days are a bit of pot luck, and sometimes get a bit crazy Ideally you could go to both, so you get some instruction, learn the track etc on Wednesday and then get to go back and practice what you have learnt on the Friday Might be a bit hard on your tyres and brakes though By the way, you have to be very careful with the drivers side front tyre at EC. It is completely possible to trash a tyre in a day, if you are not careful. Keep an eye on the pressures, and if necessary swap front to rear at lunch Also keep an eye on the front pads, as EC is quite heavy. Cheers Robbo Mods: GO MADDIE and SPARKY! |

Offline | I'm up. Get an EC session in b4 GreenDevil is "Whitelined" on the 9th of August. Stu, I have a stopwatch so I can take some times for you if you like. If you could reciprocate that would be great as I'd like see the time difference pre and post supsension mods. I'll book my place tomorrow. Heed Robbo's advice on the tyre wear on the front driver's side wheel - the results of a hard day's drivin' on it can look very nasty..
