TasMINIa goes to Hay!

Hi all,

I'm heading to Hay this weekend for the annual Mini Nationals (12-13 June). Competed last year along with about 6 other new Minis (didn't do so well, though).

The car is still in full livery, and is making some noise now thanks to a SuperSprint exhaust and the Green Cotton Filter (pod). Got home after Tassie, swapped the 15"s back onto the car, put a nail through one, so the 17"s are back on the car!

Here is an article run by the Advertiser on the day they announced closure of the Lonsdale plant. It was promoting a motorkhana on the 23rd May (still awaiting results). Sorry about the quality of the scan. The article was a full colour half page deal and one guy even came up to me during the event to tell me he was a Mini fan and even had the article pinned up in his cubicle at work!

So I'm doing my bit to promote our sponsors, and if anyone is near Hay this weekend drop by and check out the event.

Dave.

Good luck in Hay David; time the run of bad luck ended.

I'm sure Alan Earnshaw will be happy to see that you are still promoting KMS.

Hi Dave,

Excellent publicity for the mini in that article, nice to see all the Tasminia stickers.

Good luck in Hay, I'm sure your luck is due for a change

Cheers

Hi David, sorry I'm a little late in responding I've only just seen this thread. Good luck in the Nationals.
I'm delighted you are keeping the livery on your Cooper and the amount of press you have attracted. As with Boo and Robbos publicity I will be forwarding it on to the MD and Brand Manager of KMS to strenghten our case for ongoing sponsorship of TasMINIa and MINIclubs.
So once again thankyou and good luck.
Best Regards Alan --

Just call me Mr Unlucky!

Injured my left leg just a few days before the event, so been in a fair amount of pain (I did manage to stay out of hospital this time though!).

Made it as far as the Show n Shine on the Saturday, but broke a driveshaft before I even made the competition. The car is still stranded in Hay thanks to getting completely shafted (excuse the pun) by Mini Roadside Assistance. The matter is still unresolved so I won't elaborate.

In the mean time here is the beast I got to race - Mitsubishi Starion with the GT running gear (2.6l turbo RWD). First time I'd ever driven RWD in a motorkhana, and it shows. Phenomenally aggressiv car. The owner came 13th outright and won his class. I came 68th outright and last in class (out of 80 competitors).

Also, here's a photo of the beast I've got myself for just such an emergency. Not a Mini, but close!

Oh well, I'll be locking myself away for a few months now...

Thanks for the report Mr. Unlucky.
I'm lost for words David, hope MINI Assist get their act together and your car gets fixed soon.
In the meantime enjoy the Fawltymobile.

Sorry to hear it didn't all go to plan. Hope you had a good time anyway. Remember - any old fool can win. It takes real class and skill to come last. (well that is how I reassure myself anyway)

Dissapointing to hear...

I travel to SA frequently, and would hope they would have their sh** together if I ever called....
Not the best of reports, but good to see you still had fun in the Starion!!

The car looked good at the Show'n'shine... any awards?? Doesnt look like any other Mini2s there??

Todd
