Offline | While we had beautiful blues skies for our overnight run up to the Granite Belt Vineyards, the weather did cause some problems. The massive westerly winds we had over the last few days, knocked down a lot of branches (and trees) and placed them in the path of many an oncoming MINI. Carl and Elisa were the unlucky one's. What looked like a 10cm diameter branch, turned out to be attached to a whole tree. Four of the guys could not even roll the thing away. The result: Straight through the lower grille, air conditioning condensor and out the other side - fortunately, the radiator was only bent out of shape and not punctured. To their credit Carl and Elisa, where able to stay upbeat and enjoy the rest of the trip. The rest of the run turned out to be one big slamon course though. |

Offline | ![]() Bugger! We had the winds here too, and lots of garbage on the roads - but certainly nothing to that catastrophic effect ![]() All my best to Carl and Elisa, and I wish them the best for speedy repairs. Tis a shame to see what should be a great day end like that. Last edited by gazah : Aug 15th, 2004 at 11:25 AM. |

| I love Lamp | My Weekend Hello to all of the lucky pirates of Newcastle, Central Coast and Sydney. Sorry I could not join you on your sail, but I was one of the ones who found out about the drive a little too late to organise myself. But do you guys want to know about my mini related dramas this weekend. Well, I have been secretly wanting to put some bass into alisons mini, and thought this weekend would be a good opportunity. My plan was relativly simple, one twelve inch sub, one smallish amp, and a whole lot of fun........what did i get myself into. I spent saturday afternoon, doing the following, removing the rear bench, rear seats, rear boot cover, boot carpet and both rear side panels, to ONLY reach the rear speakers. My intent was to tap into the rear speakers and run a wire into the boot to be able to give signal to an amp. I then had to put all of the above pieces back into the car (in 3 hours mind you, so alison did not see her baby torn to pieces over the front lawn of my house) Well that went off without too much trouble....but i did loose a bit of blood.... Then onto today. Starting at 9am, at Bunnings to buy supplies. Then I had to make the custom sub box, which was not too difficult, then I had to mount the sub, mount the amp, wire up a power and ground wires, (whilst in fear that i would cause a voltage drop and set of a set of airbags...) then pull my hair out because i could not find a remote wire in the boot. I eventually settled on using the rear cigarette lighter as a 12v acc switch. I test fitted the box and started to wire the whole shebang up, only to find out that i did not leave myself enough slack for the ground wire.....so drive out to Jaycar, to buy more speaker wire, a shorter RCA cord, a port as well as some wire connecters and some automotive carpet. This leaves me at my place at 3pm. I wire evertthing up, and guess what...........no sound...nill, null, zip, zero,......nothing. I had power to the amp, but no sound, I pop the sub with a 9v battery, and it works so it is not the sub, I test the signal from the 6x9's and there was no problem there. I take an amp out of my subaru, and wire it up and it shakes the ![]() ![]() ![]() out of the mini. I then take the amp at fault and wire it up to my subies system and it works no problems......by then it is 7pm and I am seriously p1ssed off.To cut this long story short I have isolated this problem to a 19 dollar Aeropro, high level to RCA converter, which I bought new on thursday night......I hope to god this is the problem, cause this stereo is going to be the death of me. As I am so dedicated to the cause I am taking tomorrow off, to watch the wrestling (Summer Slam is on) and fix this thing........Truth be told I have put 12 hours into this and I still have to carpet this box, add the port, add the speaker covers, and wire up some neon lights as well as some perspex work......I am tired just thinking about it. So if I ever finish this I will post some pictures, but for the meantime I am tired and cranky.......I think I need a pirate hug.... *Sigh.....back to the drawing board* Josh ![]() ![]() Its not easy being British Racing Green |

Offline | I found that strange too. Obviously they arent supplied with the cars from factory - as Liams was the same build week as mine - he got a jack and I didnt. Unless the dealer takes them out? ![]() I shall pose the question I think... - Global Moderator - MY BLOG - Global Procrastinator - ![]() ... | I love Lamp | LOL, If you could see the state of my fingers and knuckles at the moment, you would gladly pay someone top tollar to take on this project. On the upside if anyone want to take a look on at the next cruise, I would love to share the ins and outs of box design as well as the various dimentions, tips and techniques, that I guess I have learnt the hard way. ![]() ![]() Its not easy being British Racing Green |
