The rules are different in each state - I assume that others in NSW will be able to help with your question. In Victoria, it's a one off charge.

Geez I didn't know that you guys had to pay an annual fee.

Uphere where the Sun always shines there isn't any annual fees. Just buy it, bolt it on and forget about it. What happends to it if you forget to pay or choose not to

Vic is def the place to be in Australia for personalised number plates.

In the ACT...

My 27-772 plates were a one-off fee of around $700 by the time I got the slim line front plate made (no slim line rear plates in ACT). The price of numeric plates changes depending on the number of digits. That is, 1 digit plates are the most, 5 digit plates the least. For some odd reason 6 digit plates are among the most expensive.

To get an obviously car related plate such as "MINI" would cost at least $3,500, depending on the style of plate chosen.

To get my name or intial, eg "LIAM" or "LC", would be at least $627, depending on the style of plate chosen. Haha, if only my initials were "MCS".

When these plates were introduced into the ACT some bozo changed his name by deed poll to something like Bill Holden Torana Gemini Ford Falcon Laser Mazda Toyota Smith and forked out a heap on "name" plates only to sell them off at some stupid profit.

My uncle bought "QLD1" when he was in Townsville back in the early 80s (?) and flogged that off for some stupid amount of money as well.

I paid $310 for BRGMCS, but it's just a once off fee, and there was no extra charge for the slimline plates in green.

http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/myPlates/index.jsp

it seems it'll cost you $50 up-front, then $70 per year thereafter!

I my NSW plates remade when i got the MINI. It was just after the price rise at the RTA (of course ) Last November. It cost $45 to have them remade in a different style but I am told that I could have avoided the annual fee if I had kept the yellow and black style instead of going for the white and black.

Yellow and black plates on an EB MINI would look a s s thou.
