Maybe we should ask on this thread how many Vic Minis would be interested in a track day. Not an intimidating open track day, but perhaps a more casual affair, without
pressure or too many other 'foreign' cars around. The idea being not 'race' but to enjoy
our cars in a safer environment than the open road.

We might be able to accomplish this either by hiring a track ourselves, or as a group we could approach one of the 'drive-day' organisers and perhaps fit in with our own Mini group
only track time during one of their organised days ?

It seems this is a more popular and easier to organise idea in NSW, some suggestions or help from north of the border would be much appreciated.

Todd it might take a new Thread to get things moving ?

Sounds good Mark,

The thing we need to highlight is that it is not a race day - just a safer place to play...

Hi Guys,

Luke O'Neill who runs the Burrows Drive Days is organising some Melbourne drive days next year.

These days are not cheap (around $385 per day), but are extremely well organised, with excellent instruction, and a good ratio of instructors to drivers. They are well controlled, with everyone kept within the limits of their abilities. Also there is usually a bunch of exotic supercars to drool over

In Sydney there are other organised drive days, but the Burrows days are the best for first timers. Some of the other days turn into "fast and the furious" sessions, and are not as safe or well controlled.

It might be worth contacting Luke (tell him Robbo referred you)

Events O'Neill

Cheers

Robbo

Luke pops up on here frequenty - but I havent heard from him for ages...

I actully tried to get on his list - sent an email, but got no reply to say I was on it... i wondered if I got the email address right - alot of water under the bridge since then, so I havent chased it up.

I'd love to do it, I was going to organise my dad to do it also, but yeah, never got around to it.

Hey guys, Winton is open many Fridays during the year. Last time I checked it costs about $90 for as many laps as you can handle. The downside is that it is a mixture of who's doing laps.

Let's work something out - I'm certainly interested.

Also, the BMWCCV has regular driver training events at Winton, DECA, etc.

Cheers
Chris

Robbo,

Many thanks for the Burrows info and the link.

Seems Sandown is hosting drive days next year as follows;

Thursday March 10th
Friday April 1st
Tuesday July 19th

I'd be happy to enter for 1/4/05...any other Melbourne Minis interested.
It would be great to present as a group.

For more info check the link on Robbo's post...

Todd,

I've made inquiries with O'Neill.

I hope to have all the info for the February drive day.
Trust it wont be too late to book something then.

If we get a reasonable number of Minis it'll be a great day.

I'm seeing Pk tomorrow so I'll mention it to him, we should let
Geoff/Zakdoggi know also....

Sorry, been away for work again.
I think, Jim Murcott Driving Centre Pty Ltd will do a High Performance course (its one of the courses that can allow you to get a CAMS evaluation next) at Sandown . To get an exclusive group we just need 15 cars. There will be instructions in morning and then the afternoon is unlimited track time.
Remember any thing at Sandown make sure new pads are on the car.
Put me down for any track action. Just let me know early. To make sure I can make it.

I have done one of these high performance Murcot courses, they are great value aprox $300. Plenty of tuition with instructers in your car and heaps of hot laps, did about 200km track ks. Over the day cut 2 secs of lap time and improved all aspects. We dont need 15 cars to do it even if we had 5 or 6 to form a group the other car add to the interest (espeacially when you frighten stis and clubsports), IM in to do it again if there is any takers.
