Can you get one that is adjustable?

I have been thinking in the last 5 mins (yes it doesn't happen often, but when it does, it is normally something good!!) that if the upright sections were adjustable, I would be able to get all my stuff in. I have a big double CD case, my service handbook and a whole lot of other stuff. I was thinking that if I could get the CD case and the handbook seperate, I wouldnt pull the handbook out everytime I go to get my CD's!!

That would be very convenient for me

Maybe Mr GoMiniGo can make a prototype with adjustable uprights - in black, that I will buy...

That would be SPOT ON, otherwise I cant get everything in the holes (no pun intended)

i'll see what alan / GoMiniGo has to say on the topic, but given the products are waterjet-cut PVC i would assume there's little play in making one with a custom upright todd!

Adjustable uprights:

while not a bad idea, there are a couple of issues.

1) the shape of the glovebox would only allow the right upright (RHD) to shift over about 3 inches. Right now the left one is as far to the left as it can go and there is about 6.5 inches between the uprights which is large enough for a single-wide CD case. Therefore, I cannot get them wide enough to hold a double CD case.

2) the parts are not real staple without glue. I don't think you would be happy with the lack of g-force compliance of the unit. Also, no glue, no ability to hold the maps.

3) the floor and top of the glovebox are not parallel in a side to side direction. The door side of the glovebox is actually a little taller than the center console side. Why, dunno but it is quite evident when you start trying to stuff uprights in there. And, these uprights are the key from keeping the GbT from falling out when you open the glovebox door. I learned this on the very first design. Therefore, one upright may not necessarily fit in another location.

4) if you go wider between the uprights, the map holding feature would not work.

Todd, if that just sends you into a great fit of depression, PM me and we can talk possibilities.

Thanks GoMiniGo!!

I will survive without one I would say. Im not going to make you reinvent the wheel for the sake of my stupid CD case

Your GbT looks simple, but Im sure you have spent many hours crafting it to what is is. Im actually thinking about ditching the CD case now that I have an iPod, just waiting on the BMW version of the ICElink to arrive.

Maybe you can look at a nice little spot to put an iPod into, so it wont get damaged in the glovebox under the maps, the service book, the handheld radio, etc.

I hope I haven't gone and made you product too complicated !!

You've got some good ideas in the suggestions box anyhow.

Thanks.

Todd

todd,

got a real simple suggestion. If your iPod has the belt clip, you could make a simple notch in the right front edge of the top shelf to locate it. There is a nice little area there that looks like it would fit the large iPod. My guess is that it would have to be about 25mm wide by 25 to 40 mm deep. Then you would just need to clip it intp place. I am not totally sure what the clip looks like so this is a guess from the pics on the apple site.

If the clip has a hook at the bottom to catch the bottom of a belt, a secondary hole could also be made for that to fit into it. It definitely would not move around then.

If this doesn't make sense, let me know.

Happy Motoring,

GMG

Nah, that makes sense.

Thanks for the idea. If there was a big enough market for the iPod clip would you be interested in changing the design to feature it already?

This could be another value added feature of the GbT "Perfect fit for in Glovebox iPod installation..."

It just that I wouldnt want to stuff up and cut a hole that was in the wrong place, or scuff the felt up and make it look untidy...

I'll have a black one...

Todd

Sure, if the market is big enough. Not sure it is right now. But with the new Sony coming out and the iPod, it might get bigger. I would think that most belt clips would be roughly the same size.

Might have to go get one for some, ah, research! that's it research. Do you think the wife would buy that line?

  • 2 = U$28.15
  • 6 = ~U$24.75
  • 7 = ~U$24.25

Final pricing can only be calculated once we have a final number & Alan can package them up, but the above estimates should be pretty on the mark.

Payment will be via Paypal, preferably as a single transaction to save charges at the other end [so electronic funds transfers to me, then i'll sort it out from there]

Shipping throughout Oz once the units get down-under shouldn't cost much, or else pickup @ PITS one weekend would be ideal for Sydney-siders.

couple of quick questions, sorry this may sound a bit dumb but just want to make sure!
does the U in front of the prices stand for US money?
so how much is that in AUS money? yes i know i can get a converter but i'm lazy and if i don't have a credit card, how would i get money to u? i live in melbourne so it's not like i can hand cash to u along with a beer or something in sydney...
if this can be worked out i'd like to get one in BLACK

oh btw, would any of you be interested in a group buy for the little holder designed to fit the useless hole in the middle or maybe the new MINI armrest? coz they sound like good ideas too *hint hint*

i got an exhaust because i wanted to make my car sound fast, but its not fast at all, so therefore i am a ricer....

yes, prices are in US $... once we have a final order number i'll get a firm total [incl. shipping] from GoMiniGo / Alan, convert it to AUS $ & then PM all involved parties with details

using www.xe.com/ucc/... you'll be looking at somewhere between AU$30-35 at todays exchange rates!

i'll be asking people to electronically transfer the cash into my account using internet-banking... then i'll pay Alan via paypal - a single paypal transaction will reduce costs for Alan, but if someone has a major issue we can work it out for them to pay Alan direct

i've yet to go through the numbers, but since we're getting a reasonable number of Melbourne orders i'd be interested to know how you guys would like to run with this... i'll still get all the units shipped directly to me, but re-posting to a single melbourne MINI2er would cut your additional shipping costs at this end... so if you can all agree on a person to ship to i'm happy to facilitate that

be sure to reply if you're still keen wsw!

I may be interested. A question - when I bought my Mini, my dealer gave me a Mini Street Directory, which is basically the same size as the owners handbook. To make things simple, would this fit 2 of the Mini owners handbook (silver case cover etc) on top of each other, or in 2 seperate pockets?

Baker,

Hard to answer your question about 2 handbooks since my US handbook (black) might be different. But my guess is no. The top shelf is only about 25-30mm from the top at the back with more room in the front as the glovebox roof slopes upward. My handbook is probably like 20-25mm and is wider than the CD case area.

Sorry,

GMG
