ADR Delays

So I called up the dealer again this morning to find out Where the #$%^ my MCS is as it hit the docks on the 13th and they tell me there was an unforseen delay with ADR compliance due to the new SuperCharger in the 05 models the cars had to be retested again for compliance - anyone heard anything on this ?

Richard (starting to twitch knowing the car is so close but still so far)

ooooh Dear!!!! Sounds like the SPINNERS OF CRAP are back. The SC is the same externally its only the internals that are different. All the new ones are JCW SC's without the smaller Pulley. EG they have the fancy coating to allow the SC to spin smoother. Otherwise they are all stil EatonM45's Nothing else can fit on these cars without a major major rework under the bonnet.

Sounds like they are making excuses for being slack to me!!! My dealer spun so much *****!!! on me when i was waiting i bought a toilet roll with a small note saying this is for you to clean up the ******** your spinning, in for him the next time i stopped in to see how long it would be... you should have seen him go red in the face...

I really do doubt that claim... but who knows.. .some dealers tell the truth.. .most make up

I think they have a little wheel that they spin to draw a plausible exuse for expectant customers. I've seen other entries on the wheel like "stuck in customs" and "not enough transporters to move the cars around the dock".. "two ships arrived at once" .....

My dealer told me similar things but the funny thing is that I didn't get the CooperS So his version becomes: Some gov't bodies are not happy with the ADR compliance testing so all Minis have to be retested again - the other thing was about those oil in the gearbox not good enough etc etc

He told me something about an internal email sent to the dealers by BMW head office... anyone heard about that?

Anyway called up again today that guy said my car should arrive @ the dealership either tmr or Friday (yes they told me Tuesday last week ) so I'll keep you guys posted if I get the car

Seems to me that it's time to call the head office again to give them some pressure

It's not exactly ******** but if there's any changes to the engine, technically all the previous approvals are void as there are (surprise surprise) changes done to the engine and hence, the previous emission testing results are no long valid to cover for these '05 MCS. Re: ADR 37/01. Big deal, if my running way too rich GTR can pass emission with pre-heating the cat up there's no way a 'clean car' like MCS can't pass it. Possibly what's been done is, they've done the testing and passed with flying colours but good old DoTaRS can't be stuffed with accepting the results hence the car can't be plated then it can't be delivered.

I was thinking BMW/Mini Aust might be more experienced in handling these matter than backyard importers...

This was actually correct,
they had all the new Mini's ready for delivery and they had to wait for the ADR man to pull his head out of his @rse.... My dealer had one loaded off the truck and in Pre-Delivery and had to ship it back to the holding yard quick smart
BMW managed to convince them that it was primarily the same car and finally got them to see reason...
ADR man sux....

The original SWORKS

Completely different test required, your GTR with preheated cat can be tested at Botany or Penrith in Sydney if defected etc.... Testing for registration purposes for emissions is only done in Melbourne at a couple of accredited facilities (eg. Toyota) and involves a much more rigorous testing procedure - your GTR would fail miserably unfortunately. BTW ADR 79/00 is the current spec. They have to test from dead cold (hence one test per day) and its an absolute b#tch of a test. I've heard the likes of HSV has had all sorts of problems with the Callaway engines.

Manufacturers also have to be able to pull a new car off a ship/end of production line if required emissions test it and pass. This is the reason why the ECU tuners can produce such good results on new cars as their looking for power maps instead of emissions versions. Its not as easy as you think.

At least I was somewhat right lol in terms of they can't ship cars until emission is passed.

One thing I recall is, in the MINI's catalogue, they did mentioned the cars are Euro 3 compliant meaning it should in theory at least, being able to pass 79/00 without too many hiccups. Having said that I've just digged up my collection of the ADR and compare it with the Euro 3, seems like the latter has a lower threshold than 79/00.

Anyway I rest my case as I am not an engineer of any sort and hopefully MINI Australia get their acts together to let these fellow Pirates/Vikings take their new car.

(Note to self: is this partly why the black eye purple I am suppose to see aren't here as expected? Probably....)

I got the same story from my dealer. It docked on the 11th but I ended up getting it on the 28th.

Looks like compliance has gone through. I had a feeling I wasn't the only one pulling my hair out.

Car goes great.
