Offline | How Will I Know If I Have LSD Hi Guys, I paid a deposit on 5th Jan 05, for a new MCS. I have not been given a production number yet. The Question I have is, when I pick up my Mini, how will I know if the car has a LSD or not? p.s. I do not want to spin the wheels as I leave the dealership. |

Offline | Well that's easy then, just wait until you get around the corner! Seeing as you've got an early Jan 05 order, your car will be built somewhere between Feb and March I'd guess which, by my understanding, means you'll be getting the LSD. I believe (but I could be wrong) that all Australian spec MCSs built from Jan 05 onwards will be getting the LSD as a standard fitment. Lucky you! ![]() |

Offline | If its an MCS with a Jan 05 build or later then it will have LSD. If it don't then there is a serious production line problem. As we wont see an Jan 05 build till March I have no idea what to look for yet? Maybe Scotty and his wonderful powers of forum searching can come up with the goods!!! Offline | Thanks for the responses. I have been reading the Mini2 forums for a few months now and only registered today. I'm looking forward on going on some "Mini Runs" after I receive my new car. p.s. I might just spin the wheels around the corner from the dealers. |

Offline | Hi, Welcome There are 3 ways to determine whether you have a LSD The fun way : find an open area, eg car park lot. Turn your steering to around 45 degree, rev the car to around 4000 rpm, and drop the clutch It should soon become pretty clear Note : I am not recommending or condoning such irresponsible behaviour The scientific way : put your car in neutral, leave the handbrake on, chock the rear wheels and then jack up both sides at the front. Try to "free wheel" the front wheels one side at a time. With a LSD you should be able to move either wheel independently. The pragmattic way : ask your dealer However, there is no guarantee that this will be correct Cheers Robbo Mods: GO MADDIE and SPARKY! |

![]() 6X therapist | First, the build date will be post Jan 05 I hope, second you have a manual gearbox, third, you have specced Chilli pack which includes LSD. the only way an 's' gets no LSD from now is if its not got Chilli pack and is / or Automatic transmission. Auto's will get LSD at some point in the future I guess, but why ? ![]() |

Offline | Hi Red&blackS, I'm in Sydney, living in the Sutherland Shire. I decided on a Chilli Red and White MCS but it very nearly was a Red and Black. I wanted a Pepper White and Black but my wife pulled rank forced me to choose the CR. I don't mind I still like the CR colour. I'm hoping that as LSD equipped MCS's arrive in the country we will be able to determine if LSD is fitted by just looking under the bonnet and seeing something that will distinguish if LSD is fitted. Regards, MA |

| Boy who made the wolf cry | Thanks for the reply MA... Im sure you will find many friendly people in NSW to play mini with when it arrives. The CR option is aa great one... I very nearly went CR/W, but there was a CR/B on the floor and I fell in love... my girlfriend at the time said the CR/W was very classical mini, but very common - there must be 10 in Geelong (of 50 - thats too large % for me!) and the CR/B was sporty and classy... not that it mattered as I had firmly chosen CR/B moments I saw it... I have heard the new Jan 05 and later model comes into Australia with factory LSD, so I assume that it is true - as for the obvious markings, I have no idea - I wouldnt expect to open the bonnet and have "Limited slip differential" written in 72pt type... I would start by checking the official website in Australia for the specification list, either that or get your dealer to show you the press release stating that the future variant has the LSD - and also on your ordering form... Offline | Good Morning Tux and Todd, Rang the dealer yesterday and was told that I should get a production number next week. The question of white or black roof was reinforced yesterday when I went to North Cronulla beach. I had to walk to my car across the tar in the car park, bare foot. It was a 30 degrees plus day and I would stop walking and give the feet a break by standing on the white marker lines in the car park. The temperature difference between the lines and the tar was remarkable. Since this is a Limited Slip Diff thread, I better ask a question about LSD. Will the dealer give me any paperwork that describes if LSD has been ordered? Or is there paper work available that describes the standard Australian MCS specification? Regards, Paul |

| -Mr T- | To be fair to the black roof though it is shiny not dull so the difference might not be so much...Also if you get the sunroof there isn't much to block the sun anyway. I'm going the white because it's my personal favourite. RedNBlackS suggests the black roof to make it stand out.. I reckon it'll stand out anyway and really the CR/W combo isn't all that common on the road.. I don't see that many.. With regard to the LSD, I think it will be noted somewhere on the paperwork, but if not it will be a 'given' as the build date will be after 01/05. I'm gong to the dealer's today so I'll ask that one for ya.. Tux |
