Has anyone got a dealer price for retrofitting an LSD to a pre-2005 mini?

Also - what type is the LSD (ie plate, cone, torsen, etc)?

Check out a thread on performance nad upgrade in the main section of mini2.com... there is a thread about it with a response from the guy from mini mania - it explains it all...

I'd expect to pay over $2000 as you would look at replacing the clutch at the same time...

I got a quote from MINI crowfoot in Calgary to retrofit an LSD on my '04 MCS. The quote was for $4500 + labour.

The said to retrofit the LSD they would have to replace the tranny, etc. I will try to dig up the email they sent me with info.

Well my Dealer said that if i wanted this i would have to have the whole gearbox replaced and its about 8k AUD. As the internal gearset and ratio's are slightly different therefore the part is not interchangeable with warranty.

If i was to put and LSD in i would get the full replacment 6speed DOG Toothed gearbox set with LSD. Choice of close ratio or race. Semi Helical (means they are going to be somewhat noisey) This option through Quaife would set you back about 9k AUD fitted.

there is a quaife system that drops in for about $1300 plus fit... a mate of mine did it to his MCS. IT slike th St170's LSD

i think its from the RS turbo.. not the st170

also i think i've read here or there that an aftermarket LSD means u have to drive around with DSC off.. not really a concern if u track the car but meh..not sure how they worked around it on the 05 model.. but i assume the m3 has some sord of LSD.. so just a change in program..i would guess

Im not sure about the ST170 - I was pretty sure it had it ... I thought this was one of the advantages the car had over the mini - that was it though

My mate who ha one for a ford company car called it 'The purple pen!$ eater' LOL

Stupid question but what are the benefits of the LSD ? i mean 10K AUD for a gearbox and LSD upgrade is HEAPS.
From my understanding ( which is limited in motor mechanics ofcourse ) - it prevents the car wheel slipping from 1st. ?

Oh baby.............thats TIGHT. Do you reckon the dogbox is optimal for short track or long track courses?? I was planning to do the Quaife this year but did'nt think about the dogbox just the usual clutch etc. upgrade with it.

Have to add that sucka to my list of to-dos. I'll take one of those and a Webb FMIC
