Offline | Handbrake help ok... I am giving up now... I have tried everything and I know it can be done... but I need some help. I am tyring to hand-brake park the Cooper S and I can't get the back to step around. I have DSC turned off, so that isn't what is doing it. I am going into the corner, not dipping the clutch like you need to do in RWD cars, throwing the wheel around, and then yanking the handbrake but the rear tyres have just too much grip... suggestions? (more speed is not a good one, they are kinda fast and I have a feeling that if I go any faster the car might end up in a workshop!) andrew |

Offline | I had did those alot in my old cooper, but not MCS. I would have a fair bit of speed, bout 50ks, give a little turn in opposite direction to intended spin, at same time as turning back opposite way pull handbrake and see how that goes. Mind you, I was doing them on the old factory 15 inch wheels and not 17's. But it is hard. btw, those goes that do the stunt driving usually have a locked diff to make it very easy. Good luck and make sure you dont wear out the handbrake |

Offline | Hi Andrew, You have to remember your car has ABS brakes with EBD... if the system senses you are locking only the back wheels the ebd will prevent this from happening... Im not sure if the DSC off will be enough... i know in mine which only has ASC+T that if i turn it off and gently apply the brakes then use the handbrake at the same time this will then throw the rear around. Over all though the car was designed to prevent the rear from stepping out... so unless you DE-FUSE the EBD/ABS your not going to be able to do it. Hope thats of help... Hey if you want your car to slide... thats easy.. lower it and throw a whiteline rear sway bar in with 215/40/17's and youll be sliding/drifting around corners in no time |

Offline | and here is the problem.... the car isn't exactly mine.... call it a loaner... and it does have 17" relatively new pirellis so I'm thinking that the chance of me getitng it to step are.... um.... none. pity really, cause it feels so adjustable and easy control... oh well, I do have a feeling that the people that designed it did do a bit more thinking about hand-bags than hand-brakes.... that being said, oh god I love driving it... andrew |

Offline | ahhh well in the wet you shouldnt have a problem... next time... hold the DSC switch down for 3 sec then give it a try... there is a theory that a few had pushed around at some stage that this would disable it fully including the ASC+T but who knows man... maybee its something you shouldnt do in a mates car |

Offline | Hi, I have done a quite a few motorkhanas To do a decent handbrake, DSC off Get some speed. The next bit is hard to explain as it all happens quicly. Virtually at the same time you need to make a very aggressive steering input, very lightly tap on the brakes for a short period of time with your left foot (to transfer the weight forwards) but keep the right foot on the throttle modulating input, and yank on the handbrake Once the rear starts to rotate, you should be able to control the steering / handbrake and throttle to keep it rotating Disclaimer : Do not try this on a public road or with other people around. The results can be unpredictable Take the car to a track day / motorkhana or skid pan day and have some major fun Cheers Robbo Mods: GO MADDIE and SPARKY! |

| Mini 2 Slap Head | Hi An easy trick is to pump up the rear tyres, thus reducing the size of the contact patch. You should find this reduction in grip should be enough to break rear grip and start a slid. PS Try on a private piece of land and dont forget to return to normal operating pressures when rejoining the public highway ![]() |
