nrma motorfest

For those that may be interested, a reminder that NRMA motorfest is on tomorrow in the CBD. Basically there will be hundreds of vintage and veteran cars lining Macquarie street and College street for the feasting of interested eyes.

The Mini Car Club of NSW will have a contingent there as always, if you want to see a good collection of really nice Mini's.

plus lots of corvette's, aston martin's, falcon gt's, you name it.

Now that wakefield is off this makes a good day out if you like old cars.

I love Warsaw. Where else can you hug a pole?

If you have any information, any information at all, please contact me as I'm writing an encyclopaedia.

tools for tsunami

i forgot to mention the Tools for tsunami project. I have cut and pasted some details below. If anyone can help i am sure they would appreciate it.

Quote:
Car enthusiasts of Australia can help in a practical way – a way we can all understand.
Please bring your old hand tools and your spare tools to the NRMA Motorfest on Australia Day and drop them off in Macquarie Street (look for the sign in Macquarie St, corner Bridge St, at the VSCCA area).

The coastal villagers have lost their possessions. Their trucks, bikes, boats, generators, pumps, etc are all needed to reconstruct their lives. They can be repaired by survivors if they have tools to replace lost tools. This repair should start as soon as possible before rust destroys the equipment forever.

· Fixing only one boat may provide food for a village.
· Putting practical people back to work has a powerful psychological effect. Refugees will return to their devastated villages if they have the tools to do things.

Noel McIntosh, Secretary of VSCCA, encouraged by CMC and many others, has set up an Australian group, Tools 4 Tsunami to provide basic toolkits to the many tsunami survivors in all affected countries. The group is collecting hand tools mainly via the old car movement which has a good understanding of why and what is needed. Their aim is to quickly collect the tool kits for distribution by carefully selected public and private groups, engineers, and the aid agencies as part of the second phase of aid.

"Give us the tools and we will finish the job!" W Churchill

Project Objective
Collect and distribute 500 toolkits to mechanically-capable survivors in the Indian Ocean area.
Kit to include ONLY flat spanners (metric & AF), socket spanners and wrench, pliers, screwdrivers, shifting spanner, hacksaw, wood saw, hammers, duct tape, electrical tape, tinsnips, hand drill and bits, chisels, machete, waterproof box/bag.

Many Australians have donated money but many want to do something practical or give goods. Donated money could buy replacement trucks and equipment but this is expensive and will take a long time. It is surely more efficient to fix what they have.

The aid agencies are doing an outstanding job of providing first aid, food and shelter. The second stage - recovery of equipment is also vital for the survival of the Indian Ocean disaster areas.

Contact Noel McIntosh on tools4tsunami@aol.com (or 02 9498 7428 if it is urgent) if you know of a big stash of tools or 500 waterproof bags (600mmX150X150) to hold the tools.

Sounds like the RACV Rally that was on the weekend.... there was the biggest collection of random cars I have ever seen!

From old BMWs, to Oldsmobiles, Chevy's, Mercedes Benz, Ferrari's, Posches and Cobras ...

Pack your camera there will be some gretat photo oportunities no doubt

Now..I don't know much about vintage cars, but the gathering of cars in the city yesterday was great!

I got as many photos as I could before my camera ran out of batteries...

It was a custom job done by Bill Buckle Brookvale in the 60s-he raced one at Warwick Farm with some success but sales were slow as most of us bought Cooper s.He did a Corolla conversion also which was quite quick.

I think I have seen on with a carolla motor in it... it was many years ago - and I go to a truck load of car shows each year, so I couldnt tell you exactly where I saw it.
