Offline | Well I would like to brand you all as environmental vandals! BUT, I have no moral high ground to stand on, at all!. As we progressed down the road some kilometres past Tharwa, we came to a pair of barriers accross the road. These had blown down, so I was able to edge around them and continue. There were two more barriers when we reached the NSW-ACT border. See below: ![]() This was unusual, coz last year they just said that it would be a good idea to have good traction. So, you look like you had a great time. ![]() |

Offline | Yeah it was fun Kyle. Certainly the way we approached Mt Mac (traversing around the western edge of Cotter Dam) there was no indication that we should not be where we were. The very simple climb to Mt Mac, the gate off Brindy Road was closed, which was a bugger because we thought we would have to retrace our steps to get back to civilisation, but we just went down the other side of Mt Mac through a Forestry compound at the back of Urriara Village (phew, lucky that was open or we'd have been stuffed!), and then back on to Brindy Road and then home again. ![]() |

Offline | Oh, both Andrew and I noted today what a pleasant experience it was driving the Brindy Rd twisties in the comfort of the Subie as it gave us a nice chance to reflect on the nice roads. Sector 1 of Brindy Road actually drives around the bottom of Mt MacDonald, so on some spots at the summit you could get a nice view of the road below, it certainly looks different from up high. ![]() You can just see a bit of Brindy Road in the pic below. Haha, you get a good listen to the sound of the guys on their road bikes hooking in along the road too. ![]() |

Offline | I have photos (we remember rolls of film) somewhere that I took in about 1996 of the original fire observation tower on the top of Mt M. It was easy to get there in those times. There was a gate on sector 1 that you went through, and then straight up the side of the mountain to the summit. But now you have to take the more scenic journey. Next time, we should take the bigger climb to the summit of Mt Coree. It is a pleasant drive from the end of the bitumen to the highest peak in the Territory. Great promo pix of the Scooby Doo. |

Offline | Yep, noticed the remnants of the old observation tower besides the trig - also noticed a laser reflector attached to the trig too looked like it pointed back towards Mt Stromlo. And the other thing that I thought was weird (but I think Liam got a bit tired of hearing me point out) how many telstra cables there were crisscrossing Mt M there were literally dozens of marker posts If you were going to lay telephone cable to the settlement on the other side, why wouldn't you follow an easier and lower route along the road??? Scotty, I share your sentiments re the advertising - suggested that Liam send off a few picks to Subaru and to see if they would send him free stuff. ![]() Jan 06 MCS Checkmate |
