Offline | Yeah I agree, ibis are the most festy birds when they mix with suburbia. You should see them down at Darling Harbour in Sydney. Darling Harbour is probably one of the first places tourists head when they are in Sydney and to be surrounded by birds that look like they have been brought back to life after being dead for three weeks is really a big turn off. ![]() Jan 06 MCS Checkmate |

Offline | Hi, All these snake stories I may as tell my scariest one Flashback to 1991. I am working as a junior doctor in casualty at Nepean Hospital, when a guy came in with a snake bite. Most bites are innocuous, but by the time this guy came in he allready had double vision, and was slurring his speech, which was a sign that he had envenomation, not just a bite. He soon became extremely ill The snake toxin basically disabled his bodies ability to clot blood. This is one of the ways that they can kill. Pretty soon this guy was virtually bleeding to death. He developed untrolled bleeding everywhere, from every bodily orifice He was even bleeding from his tear ducts The treatment is to give antivenom and a type of blood transfusion. There is no set dose, you just keep giving it until it works. We soon used up all of our stock of venom and blood products in the entire hospital. We then used all of our "out of date" antivenom, but the poor guy was getting more and more critical, and was no unconcsious in ICU. We ended up having to get antivenom from 4 other hospitals in Sydney until we had nearly exhausted their stock as well. Eventually after around 24 hours the guy started to stabilise, and eventually made a full recovery However, the episode stuck in my mind, and I allways treat snakes with respect Cheers Robbo PS : lucky the guy was in NSW where we have fantastic doctors and nurses God knows what would have happened if he was in Victoria ![]() Mods: GO MADDIE and SPARKY! |

| Boy who made the wolf cry | "Oooh, a trouser snake... whats that!?!" Line from a movie: (Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back) Jay (Jason Mews) is talking to a naive Shannon Elizabeth about a trouser snake - when she asks to see it, he has a moral dilema whether or not he should rip his wang out - becasue he loves this girl - CLASSIC, classic I tell you. Offline | Yeah , just think of Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark where he is standing in the pit as it fills up with snakes. That's what it's like when you get off the plane. Oh and there’ll be kangaroos jumping all over the runway and koala’s climbing all over the terminal buildings ![]() Jan 06 MCS Checkmate |

| Livin' the country life | Almost forgot about the quolls and the native bandicoots (say good bye to your chooks!) Getting back to snakes, momentarily We once came home to find a green lipped tree snake caught in our bug zapper (oh the serenity!). We managed to free it and passed it onto WIRES, made a full recovery. The things that some creatures will do for some free fried snacks ![]() ![]() |

Offline | My Grandparents used to have lizards kind of like that at their place at Whale Beach in Sydney. They used to crawl up from somewhere over the cliff (they had a house at the edge of the cliffs at the southern end) and my grandmother would feed them grapes . They also had a koala (I’m serious ) in one of the gum trees for a short period of time but I was too young to remember.Jan 06 MCS Checkmate |
