Soothsayers

Well here I was chatting to the NSW Pirates on their trip to QLD and Byron Bay about all things 02 Mini. It was suggested that I have them at my local Mini Service Dept. check over the car's steering system as it was only 5 days before the warranty expired........ well three days later I was sitting roadside waiting for the tow - truck to pick up my pride and joy!

One week later I had her back with new steering pump , rack , internal trim (scratched) air bag cover , steering column and leather seat base!

24hours later I was roadside at Ballina with a car which would not (and still won't) start.

Well what will be thr third issue?

Meanwhile, I am going to be very nervous next interstate long weekend meet that I attend.

Amazing -Iam sorry it happened to you - I have just my car back from my dealer with new steering pump , steering rackand other work done thankfully under warranty. I would advise all MJNJ owners to have a check done before warranty is up.

What the hell is going on????????
I have an April 02' MCS pre-spec and have not had one single major proble (TYPICAL COOLANT TANK BLOW, only thing!)
It seems theres a pattern of DS MCS's having problems. I think Wes, Tim and Chris have had problems + same colour, regularly.

Being 3 days out of warranty, did BMW have some sympathy to your case or did they rip you apart for repairs?

*Do people with Steering pump failure drive long distances over rough terrain or is this a random occurrence?*

I sympathise M8, you should not have to suffer these problems regardless of age of car .

hmmmm.... now back at the delaer , am becoming more and more frustrated with the road side assistance people too - after waiting for them for an extra hour before they came to get the car.....after a firm time was made!

I will continue this saga as more come to light.

Delaers have been ok.......car was actually only 3 days left inside of warrnaty - so it was a close call. I took up warrnaty extension. Best move I made me thinks.....

There's two dudes I met in Kings Cross that each had 02's....one of them was saying that he's had his steering pump and other steering bits replaced 3 TIMES!!!

He said, of the total time he's owned it, it had spent no less than three months in total being fixed...

other problems he had included, the coolant bottle bursting all over the exhaust heat shield, his steering wheel and drivers seat had been replaced because the leather started to look like the surface of the simpson desert, and one of his S-lites had a huge crack in it (he swore he hadn't driven the car through a huge ditch though....)...He had other problems, but I can't remember the myriad of things he told me about....

As I'd only had my car for a week or so when I met them, the little man in my head was going "laa laa laa, I don't want to hear this!!"

Oh - I forgot - I am on my thrid steering wheel. I told them to fit an 05 whell , but siad the BMW would not do that . Is this ********? I suggested that they should get me a new one every month coz now I am going to be a real prick about it......... still love the car , it just has some 'issues'.

My MCS runs out of warranty soon too. What symptoms does it have before it fails?
