Still not fixed and I haven't tried to fix them myself. If we or anyone not recognised by BMW touches the vehicle in attempt to fix a problem there would be no doubt your warranty would be voided for those specific issues. So I've put up with rattles since taking delivery and mentioned them each time it has gone in for a service or other warranty issues. Major issues have been attended to no questions asked (Xenon, window mechanism and front strut tower rubbers) however the rattles have only had a cursory look, a bit of oil, some sort of padding maybe but thats basically it. The steering issue is not new to MINI. There are literally hundreds of examples of steering knock problems across all MINI markets and except for Aus it has been accepted as an issue that needs to be fixed usually by replacing the steering column. Rattles are covered under warranty and are fixable however it usually requires a complete dismantling of bits around the effected area to reach the rattle or replacement of parts and that takes time and money. So quick fixes are used hoping to resolve the issue and in some cases this works. However if all these methods have been exhausted then BMW should bite the bullet and fix them properly. Taking delivery of a new vehicle with rattles from the day it leaves the showroom is not a good start. However after waiting so long to get it in the first place I wasn't about to return it and demand another vehicle. A media person (initials NR) did exactly that and got a new MINI after promising to write a story about his MINI experience. It shouldn't have to come down to threats of going public for warranty issues to be fixed. Fixing them without question builds loyalty, bad experiences kill loyalty and has a detrimental effect on the brand. I can't count how many people have commented on the rattles when riding as a passenger. It always surpises them how a new car could rattle so much and I am sure puts them off ever considering one unless they are an absolute MINI fan like most of us.

Thanks for that long reply Brad. Looks like Mini Aust don't like paying for rattles related bills is all I can gather, I think I'll need to put up with the constant rattling from the dash, the sunroof control bit and when it opens, the loud bang every now and then when I travel on bumpy roads. Let's not forget the rattling tailgate that's I've spent couple of hundreds in labour to be sorted at Trivett that came back after 2 hours from when I picked it up promising the rattling is gone for good Re: people commenting on the rattles, I've constantly been asked why did I spent so much on a baby's rattle toy....a few potential Mini buyers were scared away from riding in my car.

Sorry about the length of the previous reply . . a bit hard to squash it into a paragraph. The rattles in your MINI appear to be the same as mine . . dash, rear tailgate and sunroof. It is obvious this an issue with MINI's as we are not the only ones with the same rattles. A quick search among MINI2er's will reveal a whole heap of owners with these exact same issues. I can't believe you are being charged to attempt to fix rattles when your vehicle is still under warranty.

I Got it wrong Let me be the first to apologise re warranty. I was lead to believe that i had purchased an additional three years for $1300 on my new mini but i have now been told that this buys me 1 year extra service, 1 year free roadside and 1year extra on scheduled services. That is absolutely ridiculous, why would i spend that when in 18 months i have only had one service done and that was recently and also i dont do big kms in my mini, only 21000 even after todays run. Why wouldnt i just buy another year at the end of the two years for $650. I am seeing manager on monday re misleading information from staff and will hope to get it refunded. If i dont get it refunded i am going to drive this new mini to the clackers and they will rue the day they ever saw me walk in So sorry if i got anybody excited, i am now bitterly disappointed and unfortunately spoiling my mini experience. Next one thinking of importing via NZ. Any ideas???? happy miniing ann

Brad you are one of many early MINI owners with the same problems. Just before my warranty expird i had my car checked by an ex Alto MINI guy. He gave me a list of common problems- i had the steering box replaced along with the steering pump which was leaking also the water header plastic bottle (for the third time) Crawfords were great no hassels and a free loan car for the two days.Anyone with a CVT auto Cooper should be aware that the gearbox can be dogy- our daughters one year old coopers box was replaced last month !! ![]()

Hi Bob, Even with the problems I still love the MINI. The rattles are really annoying though. MINI Garage Sydney has also been excellent, loan cars, all warranty work, other than rattles, done, no problem. My beef is that despite being alerted to the rattles since new they (or MINI Aus) are now blaming after market suspension fitted 16 months after the rattles first appeared. And there are a heap of owners with the same rattles that still have OEM suspension.

Tick the replacements off in the Faults & Fixes Poll it will help establish a pattern for this problem. I know 2bob and a few other owners have had the same issues, some three or four times. I also know two owners who opted for the two year warranty that have had steering problems two and three months after warranty expired who have had to pay for the replacements. I guess they should have taken three years however you really shouldn't be expecting to replace a rack and column after a little over two years.
